I'm so tired of protagonists who neurotically obsess over the original story or whatever they were incarnated into.

Like, dude, just by existing in that world the whole idea of a preordained fate no longer makes sense. Doubly so when you consider each person is an actual being and not just an npc with set dialog options. By obsessing over it you are essentially removing others agency as proper beings. Fuck the story, unless there's some kind of causality in effect that forces a specific outcome, the OG plot should only be used as a rough road map, otherwise its just shitty writing to force some contrived ass drama later on.

I like how he's thinking about the saint's future as love interest for the game protagonist and that's stopping him from pursuing her, but the fact that he has a fiancee doesn't enter his head at all.

I get where you're coming from, but at the same time, is it really so hard to think that a world of fantasy and magic, based on an RPG you've played, ALSO has something like destiny or fate. I think that's where the protagonists of this type of story are coming form. Especially since the world this manga is set in, seems to worship the Goddess of Destiny.

I do agree though, unless that setting has a "this event MUST happen" type forced destiny, just the Protag stepping into the shoes of one of the characters changes things. If only because video games can only present a limited number of options, while being there in person opens up so many more possibilities.
