It's pretty common for parents that lose a child to not be able to stay in the home they raised said child. They often go back to their own parents or other family for a time then move into a new place. Though it is a little odd, in this case there are many bodies, yet a entire floor vanished with no trace, no bodies for those on it. Do to this mysterious element many would dispute that they are dead, cleaning up his room implies they have accepted his death. Even if they are staying with their own parents or family they would probably not have cleared up the place and fully moved out in two months. The typical progression would be they would remain in grieving for a few weeks, then family steps in and gets them to come to their place. They would try to convince them to move on and sell the place, but it should barely be on the market by two months, let alone moved out of, assuming its really only two months.I see two possibilities:
His reaction is (naturally) childish. He should look up what did happen to his parents. As his next step should be contacting authorities, he should simply also ask them about his parents.
- His parents moved to a different apartment.
- His parents were somehow among the victims of the school building's collapse.

(Sadly due to the lossless PNG being over 2mb, imgur gave back a lossy JPG.)
But yeah he should look for more info first as there are many possibilities.
