His strongest weapon is him. And he has a minimum range requirement. Other worlders have no vulnerability to the Evil Element Aura/Miasma. So he needs to be able to trick the Mook, into letting him get closer. If the spear worked, it's great. But he's probably expecting it not to work. He can't use a weak feint, otherwise the other side doesn't believe it.
