The MC directly chose hell-mode to have the best adventure-mode lifestyle he could get. Who'd even pick "impossible difficulty permadeath" while wanting to chill around?

MC is definitely not for the slow life. He's just cautious because revealing trump cards is an advantage he can keep and he's playing this like a hardcore gamer.

Plus also that MC takes more exp to level up so his growth is slow and he knows he needs time.

When the cards are down and he needs to step up, MC will do so in a big way. He's not afraid to spend his trumps when it makes sense.

I don't think the hero is afraid with that last pannel, I think he is just glad that there's someone else with potential to become really powerful, maybe even more than him, who can protect humanity even if he's gone.

You'd think so... But that tournament itself would be a good place to assess the current crop of younglings to begin with if the demons do gather intelligence, regardless of our MC being there and showing off.

I've a feeling there's some strict security in the background that's simply not relevant to the story and is simply left out.

With how they are quite strict on containing information about the war and keep it only to either nobles who will be fighting or those who are really high up in government I think it would be a fair assumption that every single person in the audience for the tournament is very involved with the war and as far as I know the novel

doesn't have any hint of demons/humans being able to effectively disguise themselves as the other.

Spoiler: A bit of the hero's thoughts from novel

The appearance of the hero let humanity STOP losing ground in the war, as a whole they still are at a disadvantage and it's only thanks to the hero that they can hold on. More so than fearing something in particular, he knows that he isn't enough to reclaim the land that was lost to the demons and even holding what they have now is difficult. The hero knows that no matter what he does he won't be able to become strong enough to stop the demons and Allen being able to beat him so handily makes him hopeful that they might even be able to push the demons back.
