Really weird for this to have no trauma, tragedy or anything else. The behavior of the characters is really unbalanced. Still, it's kinda fun to imagine why such behaviors don't happen the same way in real life and what kind of plot would make it more realistic. Ironically MC is the most realistic as a boring nerd. Too many girls though, as usual.

The class prez has a crush on the MC and it's implied the childhood friend fell in love with the sister. Neither are doing very well pursuing it, but you can tell they're trying. For the sister it's too ambiguous if she's in love with her new brother or just determined to be a good sister.

Why's everyone calling the older brother gloomy and depressing?
Has he actually done anything gloomy and depressing?

Like seriously, he hasn't said he hates anyone, he doesn't try to bring down the mood of the area. Like a depressing person is the kind of person who would switch to a sad topic in a social situation. Like everyone's talking about the newest marvel movie, and the depressing person would keep bringing up how tony stark died and what kind of effect that has on other people instead of all the other stuff that happened. Or maybe when people talk about going to the beach they swerve the conversations about that one time they almost drowned.

Is it really strange that they wrote a male character that likes being alone?

Can we just not say that his personality is that he's introverted, and doesn't enjoy being in social situations?

That's probably what's gonna end up happening honestly... But not like in the traditional sense? More like in the "It's your fault I'm not popular" sense
Interestingly enough though is the fact that she has some bad memories of her previous town. Maybe she made some mistakes with classmates her own age there. It took her a while to make friends her own age in the new town after all.

This manga is trash.

It's like if an A.I. was asked to write a manga based on modern rom-com manga tropes. Only the A.I. was poorly programed and it decided to combine random tropes together with no reason or rhyme.

It's like the manga wants to be Eromanga Sensei, Yuru Camp, and Oregairu all at once, and it's not doing a good job at being any of those things.

And there's the most controversial part of this manga (as far as this site is concerned); Araki Kei. This character is a microcosm of everything wrong with the manga. She's an awkward combination of two clichés/tropes (the childhood friend and the misandrist lesbian), her character is mostly stock with no nuance, and her character arc is rushed to hell and back (She "falls in love" with the step-sister after barely getting to know her? She finds her cute and that's all she needs? Huh?).

Also to the people who call those who call out this forced, annoying character/writing as "yuri-shitters" most of you don't honestly like shoujo-ai. If you did, you would be just as upset that the lesbians in these kinds of manga are portrayed as psychotic, man-haters, a stereotype that lesbians "love". You would hate that the "yuri" usually never goes beyond skinship and one-sided crushes. You would hate the fact that the author baited you into reading a manga for the off chance of a shoujo-ai subplot (similar to how everyone got baited into reading a straight romance only to have yuri shoved down their throats ) only for said subplot to go nowhere while the FMC goes with the MMC and (more times often than not) the lesbian either falls in love the MMC or hooks up with a male side character. Face it, most of you only like these kinds of characters for the yuri fanservice, not the yuri romance.

Also you would never see a shoujo-ai/shonen-ai manga have a "token straight" character fawning over one of the leads and treating the other lead like crap without being viewed as a villain by the author and the readers, so why is it okay for gay character to do that in this kind of manga?

Yeah honestly I dont see this manga lasting for much longer. So much of it was rushed and forced right off the bat.

Kei is the worst written character in this manga and I hope this is the start of either fixing her character or pushing her to the sideline. I have nothing against shoujo ai/Yuri characters in manga so long as they are done right and not rushed. From Chapter 2 - 4 Kei was read as the typical "jealous childhood friend who shows her affection by bullying the MMC". But after Chapter 5, where she some how fell in love with FMC after knowing here for a few hours, she just gives off a "misandrist lesbian who hits the MMC out of jealousy".

Oh and let's not forget the one of the main reasons the MMC is held up in his room is because of Kei.
