@truepurple It's explained that she can't get the tools on her own. She's going to need some really good connections. In chapter 18, the Guildmaster already showed interest in her ideas and having her work for them.

It's chapter 20 that she was told that the consuming could be cured with lots of money.
In chapter 24.5 Benno said he didn't have enough connections.
Chapter 25 is where they first used a tool and were pretty much going pay for it now or you have to work for us. Also that even the guildmaster was only able to buy tools that were already on the verge of breaking and that it cost much more for a good one. This is where the slave part comes in, since she'd have a contract to work for the noble to get the tools.

Edit: About the time thing, in ch 25 they also state that it will need another in half to a full year of time and that they get more expensive.

Note that Frieda in ch25 states she already has a contract to marry into a noble family in exchange for the tools. If the guildmaster could make enough money I highly doubt he would have allowed that.

As for the last question, you'll see the answer to that in some of the spoilers. It's largely a conspiracy for various reasons.

For anyone who wants to find out about what happens next here is the link to the Light Novel: https://www.readlightnovel.org/ascendance-of-a-bookworm/chapter-71

The manga is just portrayed what happened in chapter 71 of the light novels.

@goblinguy @mahtan Did she know that the consuming was caused by mana overflow? She may know that magic exists, but only in such a way that you introduce a credit card to a college student and let them know they can pay for things with it. Nothing about credit scores, interest rates, and so on. The conceptual framework isn't there and that she doesn't see other uses or concepts of magic yet.
Also, she's not like the other isekai characters who are looking to be born in a world of magic with op skills.

Firstly, that's not the light novel but instead the web novel and secondly this chapter of the manga adapted chapter 57 of the web novel, which corresponds to volume three of the LN (English translation releases on 2019-09-02, or if you have a J-Novel Club subscription you can read the corresponding stuff now), and web novel chapter 71 that you linked corresponds to manga chapter 33.

She was said to be someone that lived to read so it is hard to believe that someone like that would have zero imagination when hearing that magic exist. As I said I don't remember if she knows consuming is caused by mana or not but to just accept that there is no other way than using that specific artifact when MAGIC exist is something that a normal person, that knows nothing about magic, would not believe but here we have Myne giving up on anything that is not acquiring the artifact in some way.

@mahtan I'm pretty sure the main reasons she hasn't considered that is:

1. When she asked for a cure she was only given two solutions. Even if it seems obvious to us not being told that's a possible way to get rid of it made it not cross her mind.
2. Where will she get the people who will teach her how to use magic, pray tell? The rich merchants daughter can't afford to get magic lessons and has to go into slavery, Myne who can barely afford magic tools where will she get the materials that will help her figure out how to use magic? It's not like her other life will suddenly make her understand how to do it.

@mahtan I think that would likely play into it later. She hasn't had much of a chance to dig into what magic is in this world. Right now, it exists as an afterthought. Again, compare college kids and finances (and student and credit card debt that happens in real life). There is enough of a disconnect even though it's that common for us.

Plus, her focus is on books and that can create a bit of a tunnel vision.
