Well, according to Wikipedia, they have published the entire Part 1 series (7 volumes) in Japanese, plus two volumes each of the Part 2 and Part 3 series already, with release dates set for the next volume of both parts. Doesn't sound like it's getting axed in Japanese anytime soon.

The first three volumes of Part 1's manga series, plus the first five light novels, have already been published in English. In fact, I am already well past this manga chapter in reading the licensed light novels now, having started reading volume 5.

To drive your last point home: this chapters is about 33% into Part 2 Volume 1 and chapter 18 (the most recent raw chapter) only finishes Part 2 Volume 1, meanwhile the English LN eBooks have released Part 2 Volume 2, and for J-Novel Club subscribers the LN translations have finished Part 2 Volume 3 (they have also released the first three chapters of LN Part 2 Volume 4) the eBook of which goes on sale on the 20th of April.

Benno is sure right about the Rival stuff. I always liked to try that much harder when I had a Rival, especially in school which caused me to even enjoy school a bit more. Competition is a good thing, but schools went in the wrong direction somewhere in the 80s or 90s
