The line should be about "earning points" from Ferdinand by promoting her Saint legend, which is one of the targets of Ferdinand to reinforce Myne's position as the Adopted Daughter of the Lord.Page 8 : "faction 'against' Ferdinand"
I'm pretty sure that she doesn't plan any faction against Ferdinand, and just accidentally put him instead of mayor, or maybe "anti-faction, as demanded by Ferdinand". And since in the next balloon she also said "anti-mayor faction", take care to not make her repeating the same twice.
That depends on the Official Translation group.Small clarification: High bishop is the top position, not high priest. Rozemyne does nominally have higher position than Ferdinand but she cannot really go against him for other reasons.
They're playing a role at the moment. The 'Ferdinand' faction here wants to wipe out the town and all inhabitants (The traditional noble response). She's creating an 'opposing' more tolerant noble faction (to further her saintly status) that only wants to punish those directly involved (The mayor and his inner circle).Page 8 : "faction 'against' Ferdinand"

I want to earn points with Ferdinand by reinforcing my saint narrative while forming an opposing faction that wishes to cooperate with me, thereby minimizing casualties.
The High Bishop has the highest status in the temple and ultimately is in charge. The High Priest is the administrative head who handles the day to day tasks. Since Rozemyne is still underage, Ferdinand does some of her High Bishop work and she in turn assists with his High Priest administrative work as his calculator.Small clarification: High bishop is the top position, not high priest. I don't remember if the tasks are explicitly stated but in short high priest handles day-to-day operations of temple while high bishop handles ceremonies.
IIRC, another euphemism that was used with that other character was "distanced". Which meant... what? That he'd been fired? Just ordered to be elsewhere when dealing with Myne? It also took a while for the shoe to drop.Mayor: I’m good friends with the archduke s uncle
Ferdinand: this is the archdukes daughter and I’m his brother. Also, we killed his uncle
though this is one of my favorite moments in the light novel because of the phrasing.
“He climbed the towering stairway”. The mayor thought it meant retirement or a promotion which we all thought was dumb but that same phrase was used earlier in the LN to describe what happened to a different character and nobody caught it. I was still wondering what happened to them a dozen volumes later. The author put us in the mayor s shoes about not understanding noble euphemisms and I LOVED it
This is my understanding as well. That depends on the Official Translation group.
- J-Novel for the Light Novel & the Manga, translated it as High Bishop & High Priest.
- Crunchyroll for the Anime, translated it as High Priest & Head Priest.
I think a literal translation would be "Chief of the Temple" and "Chief of the Priests".That depends on the Official Translation group.

Myne playing good-cop-bad-cop (with the collaboration of Ferdinand, of course) is a thing of beauty. The relevant line in the LN is "I want to earn points with Ferdinand by reinforcing my saint narrative while forming an opposing faction that wishes to cooperate with me, thereby minimizing casualties."
I noticed that it's a relatively common euphemism in japan but a really uncommon one in english speaking countries, so i had a hell of a time trying to find a common, equivalent euphemism in english that could also be confused for retirement by someone who'd never heard it. thankfully my mom came thru with one she heard all her life in the southern US :3Mayor: I’m good friends with the archduke s uncle

"Bought the farm" could be roughly equivalent, although that one's so ingrained in English that it might confusion among readers as to why the mayor didn't understand.I noticed that it's a relatively common euphemism in japan but a really uncommon one in english speaking countries, so i had a hell of a time trying to find a common, equivalent euphemism in english that could also be confused for retirement by someone who'd never heard it. thankfully my mom came thru with one she heard all her life in the southern US :3
