I feel like this series isn't as popular as I hope because a lot of readers couldn't get pass thru the slice of life at the start of the series before getting to one of cutest romance right now. This series is turning out as my favorite ongoing romance manga right now that I am currently reading.

That'd be a shame because that slice of life stuff is what makes this work. If we didn't get a ton of chapters just following Chokki having random, kooky fun and dragging Shun along until he starts enjoying it too then the romantic aspect wouldn't mean as much. Their potential relationship works because they spend so much time goofing off and it helps us get a sense for their characters.

Did the MC suddenly become dumber? Where did all the progression go?

I noticed it too, but I think his brain might just be a bit fried and overworked because he’s running around taking care of stuff for everyone.

Actually it's because he thought she hasn't seen the romance in him right then and there that's why his bud died down at that moment, but it'll grow after the events.
