In the og manga, Makoto kills everyone and then himself. Mai wants to prevent anyone (including Makoto) from dying, so that's why she's trying to divert his attention by doing these surprises. She wants to keep him interested so that he won't see any point in killing.

In case you haven't noticed it already, then I'll tell you that Mai is a weirdo herself.
The WN mentioned that she still loved her brother even when her past memories surfaced, and the author note in manga ch4 just reaffirmed that.

Btw do you think a normal girl can even get to kill someone who intelligent enough to orchestrate an entire death game within the school campus by himself?
