Seriously, Violette doesn't really want to go away, be a nun, or whatever. She's just trying to find the path of least pain. What she REALLY wants is to be loved, but she's also in a position where she's been so hurt she finds it hard to accept love. Especially from MaryJun. Even in the original timeline, she was just trying to find meaning in her life and she finally snapped. Seeing how her mother abused her this chapter adds another layer to her miserable life.
Father is a scumbag but I did see someone mention that he was abused too - and he's taking it out on Violette.
MaryJun - I think people are being too hard on her. I think this chapter she finally realized her sister is being treated unfairly, and inviting her for tea is her way of trying to reach out to her. I don't think she completely gets how Violette feels yet, but I think she does love her and is looking for ways to express her love.
The prince - yeah. Basically, the hottest girl in the kingdom relentlessly threw herself at him and annoyed him to death. Now she seems to have moved on and is keeping her distance, and he misses the attention. EDIT: Also, her new, more reserved personality makes her even hotter!

@monkry Yeah it's kinda weird how she is so just at school but she don't pipe up when her dad is being a jack to Vio. Then again reading the comments she may know how horrible the father was treated by Vio's mother, so she might turn a blind eye to it. Still doesn't seem right from an observers view, but I can diffidently see myself in her shoes if that is the case.

I hope Violette and the Prince doesn't get together. If the man didn't appreciate you enough the first time, and didn't want to bother getting to know you then, why fall for him again once he starts missing the attention? Bah!

Thanks for the chapter!! I really hope this series doesn't aim to set her up with the prince....they both don't really love each other (she was chasing the prince bc she thought it would feel the best to be loved by someone so sought after & he's only interested now that she doesn't wanna approach him lmao). It feels like a waste of Yulan, who seems to genuinely care for Violette....Also it sucks that in another world, Maryjun and Violette could have really gotten along I hate how much Violette has to kill her own feelings just to live gah

@riflow this! So much same. She does seem nice and kind and whatever, but why doesn't she say anything to her father or talk to him about Violette's cruel treatment? Same with the new wife. I get that the previous wife (Violette's mother) was a huge biatch, but why do they have to punish Violette for it? Ugh

And I seriously, SERIOUSLY hope that she doesn't end up together with the Prince. I hate that trope of "girl chases guy but he's uninterested. Oh, but when Girl moves on and isn't interested anymore, that's when Guy finally notices her and/or starts liking her" Pff, screw that. No.

They're finally showing the backstory from the novel! I was wondering how they'd approach it since the flow was different.

I think everyone's too hard on Maryjune and her mother. Maryjune was seemingly just about to say something to her father until he had to leave the dining room. If not, she wouldn't have called him out like that, and just saw him off.

From how I see it, she probably doesn't want to say her father is being cruel as he is her father and wants to believe he's a good person. But she also thinks that he's treating Violette too coldly, and wishes for him to praise her too. She doesn't know how to approach this type of situation so that everyone can get along. Naive and pure, she believes that there is a way for things to be happy for this family.

As for her mother, we don't know if she has voiced her opinion, but we also don't know if she hasn't. We barely even know anything about her but, she does seem to resemble her daughter. Maybe she is also troubled on how to deal with this, or has already voiced her opinion but was shut down by the douchebag in a honey covered way. But that's just an "if", and we can't be certain still. Perhaps they'll show a bit more of the mother later on.

Either way, that's just my insight. We can't say for certain until we see their point of views.
