ahistoric and categorically untrue. the vast majority of yuri authors are women/lesbians and audience demographics are majority women / queer people.
THANK YOU.
Yuri has been very pure for so long, for historical reasons but not only (hence the whole ‘holding hands’ Yuri meme). And that’s largely because of this weird puritanism that only ever seems to apply to wlw stories (debates I don’t see nearly as much around straight or mlm romances.)
The assumption is that anything even remotely sexual or erotic in a Yuri must automatically be a fetish or male gaze-y, when in reality plenty of mangakas are just… telling their own stories.

Luckily, we’re starting to see way more diversity in tone lately, since female authors (the majority of Yuri authors) are willing to explore the genre in more depth and/or more eccentricity but also because its audiences (and yes, that include the so-called ’dirty men‘) realised they are allowed to want a little spice in their Yuri romance.

What’s funny is that the freer Yuri becomes, the more I see these performative hot takes like: ‘Most Yuri is catered to men!’ Like… where?? Please, give me those -and don’t give me a hentai with lesbians in It- because most of the time, what I see is high school girls spending 60 chapters to figure out the other one’s love confession might not be so platonic after all.. and I’m being nice..

gosh I’m ace and I usually don’t give a damn about sex but oh boy the puritanism around Yuri drives me nuts

long as it is popular enough that it makes enough to pay the salary, why not let them just finish out the story to a natural end instead of immediately axing it?
Capitalism and shareholders, I'm afraid. It's taking up a spot that a theoretical series could be occupying to bring in more money. All they ever care about.

My complaint was actually focused on both the purity crap where nothing ever happens and the overly crap sex stuff that’s clearly not meant for a female audience.

:pout: probably because the cast are not questionably aged high schoolers. This is a manga not a manhwa unfortunately.
  • Gyaru maid
  • Engagement of the Disgraced Witch and the Cross-Dressing Princess
  • Shikabane Shoujo to Ai ga Omoi Sei-kishi no Toubatsu Gakuen Life
  • Wanna Skip School in the Infirmary
  • Am I About to Join a Kill-Or-Be-Killed Love Triangle?
  • etc.
all got axed recently too despite being primarily about highschool aged girls.
There's plenty of successful on-going adult yuri series like otherside picnic, murcielago, idol x idol story, Yadokawa's new yuri, medetai sensei, wicked spot (and pretty much everything else by the author), death defying princess, fed up office lady, bougo no grey, Kamiina Botan, how do we relationship (ended recently but im counting it), Workplace Where You Can't Help But Smile, blue garnet, alcohol and ogre girls, my cute little kitten, etc. (and lots of age-gap yuri if you count that)

I really doubt it had anything to do with the age of the cast, yuri is just a niche genre in general. It's why a lot of manga authors (and manwha authors) are going the self-publish route now. The author of princess of the sylph for example started out self-publishing, then got serialized, now went back to being self-published and doing fanbox because they wanted to see their vision through

Nah fr, Dahlia and Violet (lol I just realized they're named after flowers) is part of that S-tier sisterhood friendship (usually from school) trope that came about in the 90s and early 2000s. They're not actual sisters at all.

I'm a big fan of Dahlia, who I feel like is the only character that lowkey redeemed herself with all that early shenanigans, spy stuff, etc. I hope she and Lyla have a good future somewhere after this axe.

As for Violet... well all "Oho-ho-ho" villainess were once innocent sweet girls, I suppose.

I did thank think was fat too fast a pivot from let it all burn and I'll claim the ashes to I have a sad backstory. The axe explains it. Good stuff never lasts.

I just highly doubt that. When you look at the yuri that are popular in Japan and their fanbase and authors it’s often leans heavily male. It’s gotten a lot more fair, but still.
I'd love to see actual statistics to back up this and your initial claim, honestly.

Also I generally think it's a bad take to gatekeep media like you're doing by saying "it's not real [xyz] unless it's made and consumed by this very specific group of people", but, you do you.

Doubt there are any hard hitting statistics to back either claim up (mine and others) it’s just based on my simple observation of both authors and fandoms.

Except nowhere did I say that. I said I detest a lot of yuri because a lot of them are catered to men. That obviously doesn’t mean a guy can’t write a good yuri story or that men can’t enjoy a yuri story without fetishizing it. Feel like that’s common sense.

Japanese authors need to learn from Chinese, they will finish the entire story without axe it

Oh well, this got axed as well.. I thought Sometime had gotten over showing us two girls killing
Kissing each other but again she does not give us proper kissing panel. Of well. I hope sometime continues with more yuri work!
