@KZO, even if she stated herself to be, I'm not sure I'd really call her openminded. It feels really uncomfortable to be approached by someone you barely talked to in high school, who speaks so insensitively about about something so... personal.
Not to mention that just because she's speaking in a 'friendly' way doesn't mean she's really being friendly. I'm not sure how to explain it, but there's this way bullies try to get to you, by acting overly friendly and laughing at you in your face, pretending that they're just really interested in you. Maybe she's just insensitive and dense and doesn't mean it that way, but the way she talked to Landlady really got me feeling really uncomfortable and on my guard.

I'd also add that she said twice to Hara to drop being polite which is probably Hara's way to establish that they are actually not close and would like to have some space.
Though I have a feeling she also speaks that way with everyone, but I would have to check the Japanese for that.

That's will be a super hard denial here then since Hirakawa said that Hara has date girls in high school and she has "possibly" sleep with Chiyo. If she still think she is not gay after dating girls, i don't know what would make her think that. Ithink Hara is just socially awkward and just wanted to profit of the date just the two of them. I don't think Hirakawa had any ill intent given how dumbfounded she is at the end. She clearly don't know what did she do wrong. Hirakawa didn't read the mood.

I think it's Ookami-san you're talking about but the whole thing with the ex-bf wasn't supposed to be taken lightly.
I mean, he's the main antagonist, after all.
The ex isn't meant to be liked, at all. The novel just starts off as a romcom; rather, just because it does start out as a rom com doesn't mean it can't tackle more serious topics.

Of course the fact that she is so immediately offended by it is probably meant to be a case of the "I'm actually super the gay and I never realised it" trope that yuri and yaoi tend to overuse rather than just being a decent person who cares about her young gay friend's mental well-being.
