I also wonder why he is running away. he should be able to defeat both his idiotic former party members as well as the secret agent squad.
but maybe he just wants to make sure he does not endanger an innocent civilian.
I don't think he's actually running away.

An important page this chap:

He's not running away, he's leading them to a location that is likely very cursed, haunted by the masses who died in the epidemic. The assassins think that for some reason being in the "resting place of the dead" will be beneficial to them, but in all likelihood, as soon as Gaile gets there they're basically done for.

(it's worth mentioning that he probably could have beaten everyone where they were previously, but he's very ignorant of his own power level and likely thinks in order to defeat Kash+co he needs to power up even more by obtaining more curses)

It's much easier to simply kill than capture somebody alive. Now that he has severely weakened them, they suspect that they lack the strength to capture.

Even though their orders were only find him and bring him to the princess? All she wants to do is thank him but her retard squad wants him dead for no reason.

Because they didn't actually kill the monster and so it followed them to the village after the caravan incident.
The end of the chapter suggested it was when they were chasing mc (away from village) at the end of the chapter, that it started stalking them without them noticing (it was lurking somewhere between village and cemetary).
So those assasins are only supposed to be searching for mc to bring back to the princess unharmed, but now they want to kill him? the fuck is happening?

The assassins are the rival kingdom's goons. The ones that tried to assassinate princess and failed due to him. They are tracking him down to either convince him to join them, kidnap, or kill, with preference being that order.
With them judging it impossible to kidnap someone so powerful, they decided on the "assassinate when he is unawares" course of action.

I, too, don't get why they don't want to even ask him if he wants to join their kingdom, but I suspect it is because they doubt the country can keep him locked up if he does, and they think that that killing him becomes a non-option if he knows there are assassins around (so better go for the "assured" option).
But either way, they are not the princess's goons, the adventurer party they infiltrated is.

The only ones who were told to bring Gaile back alive for the princess are Kash's hero crew (although, they're acting similarly dumb, but it's because they're assholes who hate Gaile). These people are the empire assassins who tried to kill the princess (but failed because of the ring), and "joined" Kash's crew as porters in order to use them to find Gaile, who they know as the guy who foiled their assassination attempt.

Man this comic would be god damn gold IF we stopped this absolute ridiculous horsing around. If Gaile literally paid attention 1/10:th of the time, SO MUCH would be resolved. It is an interesting premise but due to the trash "misunderstanding" trope, it is just getting worse.

When it rains, it pours. Fortunately not all the threats are on the same side. If they start fighting one another that gives Gaile some breathing room to do whatever it is he's planning; that monster has a score to settle with Liz and her crew after all.

Casually using a world-class debuff and proceeding to run away. Over 20 chapters waiting for the occasion where Gale would openly and directly confront his party and... nothing. You know what fellas, the punching bag MC with complete lack of self awareness archetype is really exhausting.

Interesting characters, exceptional art, great concepts to explore, yet authors keep tainting otherwise great pieces of work with such stupid tropes, and stringing readers along indefinitely. Why is it the way it is, guys?
