bullshit. how can the childhood friend who's almost always with him in middle school not know he had a girlfriend who's her "now" bestfriend.

not one of them gave a clue or had a care to share it to her? not him, not his/their friends in middle school, not her "friend", not their friends in highschool.

I don't know what kind of relationship they had to not even share that they had one, but now I really want MC to fall for someone else.

If Aya only started figuring out her ex and Hikari's crush were the same person in chapter 11, does Yuu even realize that Hikari and Aya were friends? The age gap would definitely help explain why none of them seem to recognize who they were to each other. Yuu and Aya went out in middle school when Yuu started distancing himself from Hikari. Aya graduates, Yuu plans on going to the same school as her but fails to get in. Something happens which gets her held back. They break up at some point, maybe for maximal drama it's related to why she gets held back. Hikari and Yuu start high school, and Hikari makes friends with Aya. Time goes along and we have the start of the manga. In that way it never really comes up, but it also means Aya never hung out at Hikari's nor Yuu's.

Lmao XD? Calling this a massive overreaction would be the understatement of the century. Is what happened trash? Huge yes. Is MC trash? Not at all.

The author's poor writing and plot holes do not make him a terrible character in story. This particular chapter and "twist" read like a cheap fanfic, true. BUT he has been an okay guy for 20 chapters. It also seems like he was forcefully kissed mid arguement. For now he doesn't need to be redeemed for anything, lol. We only 100% for sure can say, fuck Aya.
Finally a sensible comment in this emotional outburst here (over 300+ comments lol), many are not even aware of the meaning "ntr", this ain't that. Ta-kun was reluctant to go for this reason, this is what he wanted to tell Hikari, but she pushed him. And ofc, Aya is the bad guy here, visibly she has feelings for him. I just pray to not make Ta-kun her stepbrother lol then it would be more cheap than it is atm.

Apologies for the long post, but just wanted to mention something.

Just a small thing I noticed going back and looking at the previous chapters to get a sense of how Aya couldn't possibly know about this, or if she's just a terrible person. I remembered them talking about Ta-kun a while back and originally thought there's no way Aya was such a shitty person to give love advice to her friend while knowing that she was after her ex. In chapter 11, during the group dm of the friends, they're explicitly talking about him, and I noticed something that in hindsight was mistranslated.

It's very difficult to directly translate, but Yuka's (the blonde) text bubble (#5 from the top) says 「そうそう!くんとかりんだけに、”夕陽”をバックにさ~」or romanized "Sousou! Yuukun to Hikarin dake ni, "YuuHi" wo bakku ni sa~". The word for sunset 夕陽 (Yuuhi) is indeed a combination of the first syllable of their first names. In the Japanese text, the Yu and Hi are emphasized in Yuka's text message to show what she's saying. Hikari does indeed call him "Ta-kun", but in Japanese, without the ~ character, the name is read as "Yuukun".

Confused, Aya says 「ゆう?あれ?ターくんじゃなかったっけ?陽花梨の彼氏って」or "Yuu? Are? Ta-kun janakatta ke? Hikari no kareshi?". The translations of both bubbles are correct, but because this is the first time the story has called him "Yuukun" at all, it makes sense why the translator left it as "Ta-kun".

Thank you for sticking with me because my point is that it seems (at least to me, having read both) that Aya up until this point did not know who Hikari's "boyfriend" was, and thought his name actually was "Ta-kun" like "Taiki" or "Takuto" or something like that that starts with "Ta", instead of either a reference to his last name (Takamura) or that the kanji for his name 夕 "Yuu" is nearly the exact same as the Katakana character for "Ta" タ.

This was a small hint that something was weird that seemed to slip past English readers, although Japanese readers got it. We didn't get the first instance of "Yuukun" until chapter 16.

Just wanted to mention this in case anyone went back and maybe got confused by this panel.
Even without this in-depht analysis (which i love, great job) you can actually understand that ML doesn't know FL's friends and viceversa just based on their interactions and common sense.

The hate the characters are getting right now it's totally undeserved lmao.
It is to the author tho, this was my happy meal charge before work and now it feels soggy

Yeah I went back to binge re-read from the beginning, and I think the only way for it to be somewhat salvageable is
  • Aya never knew Hikari's crush was her ex-bf the whole time, only until he entered the classroom
  • Ta-kun's eyes were on Hikari the whole time, based on how much he looked up to her (which may be a possible reason for the break up?)
  • Ta-kun realized that Aya attended the same school as her, which is why he was reluctant to attend the school festival
  • Ta-kun probably realized that Aya was there, which is why he noped out of the classroom without a word and only left a note
  • Ta-kun was probably not as invested in their relationship as Aya was, somewhat like the kouhai from the earlier chaps, which may be why he never saw a need to explain anything to Hikari
  • Aya tried her best to stay away but teens be irrational and emotional, she saw him in the classroom alone and couldn't hold back (she may have misunderstood too that he came looking for her, when in fact he came for Hikari)
I have no explanation for Aya being 18 though, maybe she studied overseas and when she came back, her education level was of 1-2 years below? She's also hella rich, rich people have their own problems I guess
Makes sense. The development came a little out of nowhere but clearly the author has been laying some groundwork.

People also seem to be missing the slap Yuu received from Aya in that first panel so clearly there’s a lot more going on here.

I’m sure Hikari will win in the end so it’s interesting to see where it goes next!
