Hey if you think the most overused storytelling trauma for women for hundreds of years, is some grand masterpiece of writing, all the more power to you.

Don't let me take that away from you. I'm just some random loser online.
It's a tool. Just because it's there doesn't mean the author can't use it well.

Yeah I still think this shift in story is unnecessary. I’ll still hold hope that it may improve tho.

Making characters do something to make them the absolute worst in the audience mind to only then try to immediately try to play for sympathy just doesn't work.
Do you not know what forgiveness is? Have Japanese media not beat you over head enough about perpetuating the cycle of violence? If Ellie had killed Abby, the little kid would've grown up to hate her and wanted to hunt her down the same way Ellie did Abby and Abby did Joel. And if you didn't notice, Ellie's friends and family died, were mutilated and left her because she was so obsessed with her crusade.

The only way this can be redeemed is if it turns out that childhood friend realized his feelings for MC, which is why he broke up with Ayami and didn't want to go to their school in the first place.
I think it's going to be almost the opposite, dating and helping Aya made Yuu mature and that is what made Hikari fell in love with him, her feelings for him are very recent after all

I feel like this could work if the flashback chapter has happened before the reveal, you can even cut it off before directly showing that they are in a relationship, only that they know each other and whatever the implications of that might be.

It shifts the context of her convos with the FMC slightly (is she supporting them because they are both intimate with her? why doesnt FMC know that they know each other ? etc) but then it would be a bigger boom when the last chapter happens.

Its like the quote from Hitchcock about a bomb in a cafe, you want to set that information in first so that it changes the context of all other information

I feel like this is the result of publishing the first draft

Oh boy backstory time.

Fun Facts:
  • Saranami went from being rated 8.59 to 8.04 because of the last chapter.
  • 20 1-star ratings to 93 1-star ratings.
  • 3 people reported this manga as a troll entry.

Not sure I blame them really. The tone of this has really shifted since the first chapter.

"I feel so bad for her. Now her behaviors are justified completely, and I (who represent all readers) fully empathize with her actions."
- Not a single person in the history of mankind
Said you, after one chapter, that is probably not even a quarter of a backstory we are supposed to learn.

>it's bad writing because I didn't like it
Jesus Christ, when did manga readers became so entitled?
Ironically I feel like that has more substance than people being utterly delusional and just making shit up that didn’t happen at all. I am curious however why the author decided to go this route.
