Seriously, you don't just crash another relationship just because you like the person who is already committed. You had your chance, you didn't take it. Now you have to live with your choices. Now, NOW, you have to live with the fact that you have perhaps ruined the friendship you had with the FMC, which only fucks your situation even more.

Hey @vipguy64, Sir, if it's not too much trouble, could I possibly DM you about a report I made suggesting a tag be added to a manga? Only if it’s not too much of a bother, of course! Sir.

Did you accidentally fuse the traits of both the fmc and the black haired girl?

On paper, the only reason people hate Ayami is because we've been following the MC all this time and her crush. Though...the forced kiss (if forced) would make me hella uncomfortable. It's whiplash but it's not necesarily bad writing.........yet.

was expecting it to be a longer chapter
im still curious about ayami's backstory despite what others say since IT IS necessary to the overall story
A backstory to a character, regardless if they are liked or not, is always needed yes.

But the way the author went with it in this example is such a huge tonal shift.

"So you know this controversial character?

I am now gonna heavily imply she was sexually abused by her step-dad.

And then she ran way from home, and now sells herself to pedo old men for cash.

This is sure to fit in with the light hearted romcom premise I started with"

I always wonder, isn't there a better narrative approach to this? Instead of waiting for the backstory to fix a character's lack of appeal, why not build sympathy earlier on?
Depending on how bad the backlash is, they may be in danger of getting axe'd, hence needing to course correct asap. But that said, apparently this is based on a novel, so maybe the manga is just following the story flow of the novel.

If we talking about my analogy here, it's like adding lengkuas in your rawon.
it add subtle but complex taste in the background, but if suddenly bite it thinking it was a piece of meat, it's a huge turn off

The backstory isn't meant to fix Ami's lack of appeal, it's to resolve the twist. The hints existed from early on that MC's perspective was limited. The reason it didn't fill in more gaps before is because the shock you felt last chapter was what you were supposed to feel. Basically keeping you in the shoes of the MC.

Interestingly, we have now fully shifted to Ami's perspective, potentially making her a deuteragonist. We'll see how this plays out long term.
