well she did connect the dots at some point, i think maybe on chapter 12 with the Yuu/Taa-kun kanji. What i (assume) it happened was that Yami got over her insecurities like she said on this chapter, that she needs to work on herself more and stopped asking about "her".

She connected the dots, but it took her too long. Ayami considers Hikari her "best friend," so she knows her well. Therefore, it would be odd for her not to notice the similarities between what Yuu told her about Hikari and Hikari herself.

In the WN she doesn't know anything about "her" : "I don’t know her name, what middle school they attended together, or even her approximate address."

My guess is that when it goes back to present time the senpai is gonna say she loves him and then she will get rejected because thats litteraly why the mc didnt want to go to the festival in the first place. He was probably avoiding going there because he ended their relationship because he loves the childhood friend (horrible decision imo). The fact the author plan to drag this arc beyond chapter 25 just shows how this manga will get review bombed AGAIN after it goes back to the festival because everyone will start liking the senpai. Cant wait to see the 2.5 rating on the manga, its a ticking bomb lmao
