You’re referring to chapter 18, but by that point, Yuu is already single. In that chapter, he mentions a junior who showed up at school with a new boyfriend. Back in chapter 12, when Yuu rejected the junior, he didn’t mention being in a relationship; he said he had a girl he liked.

Yes, I said that I had seen two interpretations of the scene online. One where that was the moment that they broke up and another where they were already broken up and Hikari simply reminded Yuu of Ayami. I say this because both further validate my initial claim that Yuu isn’t over the breakup by the time the school festival starts.

Because he himself opened up to Aya, while deliberately keeping Hikari out of it (in the dark, if you would).
We also don't know much about Yuu and Hikari's relationship when they were younger, but apparently Hikari's involvement in his life was such that he has a great deal of respect towards her, and indirectly, she's been the cause behind his drive for serlf-improvement.

I feel that Yuu getting flustered in that scene would be due to the former rather than the latter. He was fine in chapter 1 when reading back to back with Hikari. It might also be Hikari getting close in terms of her questioning about Yuu's relationship with his kouhai. Rather than his ex being her, it was Ayami. Yuu dropping the conversation so Hikari doesn't figure out or gain some suspicions.

I don’t really know why Yuu would want to hide his relationship with Ayami from Hikari, especially when they’re broken up, unless my personally theory for their breakup is correct. Otherwise there wouldn’t be a point to it, Yuu doesn’t seem to know that Ayami and Hikari are friends. All he knows is that they go to the same school. I think it’d make more sense if he avoided answering her questions because the matter of his ex, Ayami, was still a touchy subject for him. I guess there’s no way of fully knowing at this point though, so we’ll just have to wait.

I will concede, that is a little concerning. The only real explanation is if Ayami and Yuu broke up before the events of the manga, which is really up in the air at this point. Some people seem to believe that’s the case, some people believe that their breakup is a more recent development. It’s possible that Yuu never brought it up but that seems like a stretch.

Actually, I just looked through the chapters and it actually is kind of possible for Yuu not to have told Ayami about Hikari while they were dating. First off, Yuu seems to already know that Ayami is somewhat insecure when it comes to his childhood friend, so he already has a reason to not fully reveal all the details to Ayami. Secondly, he could always explaining reading manga with Hikari in his room/chilling in his room as just “hanging out with a friend” to Ayami if the topic ever arises. Secondly, it’s implied that the amusement park IS when Ayami finds out that Hikari’s crush is Yuu. She realizes this through text when she realizes that Yuu and Ta-kun are the same person. So, she actually would know about him being with her at the Amusement park and them going to the swimming pool together, since she and Hikari went swimsuit shopping together later on. So, if they did break up during Hikari’s arc, and not before, then it likely would’ve been after the trip to the amusement park but before the swimsuit shopping. The amusement park could even be a reason why they broke up. This is just one possibility though, who knows where this manga is going.

Based on the cover, chapter 13.5 seems to be about Yami being alone at another station while Hikari and Yuu are walking home from the station in the rain in chapter 13 (just my guess). I suspect we might get more information about their breakup from this chapter. I have to say, the circumstances of their breakup are what I'm most curious about right now lol.

I suspect we might get more information about their breakup from this chapter. I have to say, the circumstances of their breakup are what I'm most curious about right now lol.

Yeah, I get it, lol. It’s definitely the biggest mystery and I think most people who are invested have their own ideas of how the breakup went down.

I don't know how you came to that conclusion. Chapter 13.5 should be about events happening simultaneously at different locations, so Yami couldn't have broken up with Yuu because she 'saw' Hikari and Yuu walking home together, since they were at different stations and heading home in different directions.
