To me that only hints at her doing something very, very stupid especially since we jumped from there to beginning of summer. Something like seducing her step father (who was hinted at making moves at her) and making sure her mother found out.
She also shamelessly changed the topic when he asked about her family. She definitely did something to "solve" the problem.

I still don't understand why you would pivot to something entirely different for so long. Like, this isn't Luffy's backstory, this has barely anything to do with what was presented first.
I repeat what I've said ad naseum: this isn't a flashback, not in the literary device sense. This is a new story, set in the same world, with a different protagonist. Hikari is not the only perspective character, she had Volume 1, and Yami has Volume 2. The story is not trying to get to the present, it's telling the story of a broken girl gaining and losing her first love. Who know what volume 3 will be. Maybe it will be Yuu's perspective.

Then the author should have written a separate story. Also, it IS a flashback by every definition, whether you want to argue or not. It’s like if Fellowship of the Rings cut off after Gandalf died and then had an entire second movie about the Balrog’s backstory.

I mean... She wasn't in love with him at that time so I can't really blame this girl but the guy is a weak ass mf...
He doesn't have the courage to stand up and chase the girl he loves so he just switches in a day?
Sounds like the kind of relationship you use to cope, it never ends well. :shamihuh:

The chapter of the novel presents some interesting points. Please be aware that the excerpts were translated using MTL.

Here, we see that Yuu lied to his parents about his activities, which strengthens the hypothesis that he was keeping his relationship with Yami a secret from them—though the reason remains a mystery. Additionally, it's interesting that Yuu still regretted failing his entrance exams and that Yami didn’t consider the implications of his statement.

Here, we see that Yami lies constantly, and Yuu is aware of it. This is an obvious red flag.

Here, we see that Yami is clearly obsessed with Yuu, which raises another red flag.

Apologies for the lengthy post, but it's a shame that the manga is a shortened, butchered version of the novel. To me, it really seems like publishing both the novel and the manga simultaneously was a mistake.

Thanks for the chapter!
What happens after this chapter from the novel? I don’t mind spoilers

No, it's not. An analepsis is an interjected scene taking place in the past from the active narrative. The reason people like you are complaining about how long it is taking is specifically because it is not. You are still seeing Hikari's POV as the main plot. We know now that it isn't.

what could have possibly made Yami and Yuu break up with each other, to the point where Yuu personality would have to appear almost factory reset by the very first chapter chilling with Hikari?

I think my biggest issue is that Yuu from the Hikari chapters doesn’t act like a dude who, at this point, has gotten laid dozens of times. Which makes it feel like the writer decided they preferred Yami over Hikari and decided that she gets to fuck Yuu and be all lovey dovey. It smacks of writing by the seat of your pants and disrespecting your readers.

If you disliked where your story was going then write a different story. Don’t flip the bird to your readers and derail shit because you Stan a new waifu.
RIGHT this was my gripe as I read the Yami flashback chapters. This dude was NOT like this in the beginning of the story. it almost seemed apparent that he was very shy and unsure of how to go about his feelings with Hikari. Very innocent and "first love" type of experiences.

Yet here, it is evident that Yuu has ALREADY gone through pretty much everything, every step of a relationship (and way too fast i might add) with Yami.

Hikari wasn't the only one cucked here, I FEEL cucked (as I'm sure most readers are) having just found this out... I'd consider this blatant character assassination for Yuu.

We're beginning to see a lot of red flags in Yami and Yuu's relationship. She is becoming overly clingy and moving things way too fast, kind of like her mom did with her now ex-husband. She is a deeply insecure girl. If I were a betting man, I'd predict Hikari and Yuu getting together at the end of the series, with Ayami getting a bittersweet ending. Though Hikari's end will also be somewhat bittersweet, as Yami has taken all of Yuu's "firsts", and the shoujo-esque high school romance she fantasized about will never come to fruition.

I'm still Team Yami either way, just my guess based on these last few chapters.

Hum, interesting point, I didn't realize that. Maybe Yuu is going to see that, and is going to step away for her or something? Or she's the one who's going to realize that, and break up? Idk, but it seems Yami's mental health and problems (with her family and more) is going to be very important in the next chapters.
Their relationship seems to be "perfect", a little "too perfect". And Yami seems to want to move too fast, even though she's very immature, and those red flags are a sign of that and wanting to grow up and leave her house

Aren't these motherfuckers in high school?
They are high school first and second years. In Japan, 1st to 6th grade is elementary, 7th to 9th is middle, and 10th to 12 is high school.
But to get to my point and your question: Yes, Yuu is 15 and Yami is 17.

Honestly, despite me liking their relationship, its clearly unstable as fuck and not perfect. Her saying that they should move together after only a few months of dating, and when they're teens at that, is a huge red fucking flag that can't be ignored. Not to mention her being extremely insecure and jealous of a girl she hasn't meet is not a good thing. If, in chapter 29 Yami and Yuu are still together, then it all but means that they were dating throughout the first arc, up until before chapter 19.
