Lol what's wrong with him? Hes pretty normal , unless there is something from the novels that I dont know he hasnt done anything wrong
Nothing critically wrong with Yuu, but he was generally shifty and avoidant of Hikari, what he did was basically lie by omission. And I guess there's the part where he kinda jumped off the deep end by getting entangled with Yami and accepting her offer to come lick each other's wounds (and genitals) out of desperation. Which is not that much of a red flag, not anywhere on Yami's level, but for Hikari specifically, it basically dooms their potential relationship, she will have to look past way too much of his baggage.

were she a home wrecker if there were no home to wreck? both childhood friends were indecisive enough not to do shit, it's perfectly normal for any one of them to be swept up and to move on with a more proactive person.
Hikari never loved Yuu until she entered Highschool if her narration is any indication. Yuu seemed to have been in love with her since Middle school, maybe even before that, but knew if he ever asked her out, she was going to turn him down, which Hikari herself even says yes during her time in the bath.

yeah i understand why people saw Yami as a red flag but i never understand why Yuu is also being called one lol. Like i get maybe him suddenly moving on even though his goal was to catch Hikari is not ideal but thats hardly a red flag when you consider the reason why he does move on.
I think people are just trying to vilify Yuu. Guy fell in love with a girl that would not give him the time of day and who at best viewed as a little brother. He moved on when he realize nothing was going to change about their relationship. Simple as.

I can't argue against that because we have no clear evidence. However him wandering off from the clubroom + him getting very emotional when meeting her makes me think it wasn't just a coincidence. And don't forget Yami's line about "Why do you always manage to find me, Yuu?" (quoting the WN here).
Yuu was always going to be emotional tho, Yami was his first proper girlfriend and he lost his virginity to her. But that doesnt mean that their meeting has to be more than a coincidence imo. I just think with the way Yuu left a message in chapter 20, he prob was just waiting for Hikari but then he saw Yami and then chase after her or something. And the "Why do you always manage to find me" could just describe Yuu finding Yami coincidentally tho, just like their very first meeting

wow uhh lol as much as i REALLY wanted to, i found myself not giving a fuck about this shoehorned tragic backstory of a character that NO ONE asked for, from a manga about two childhood friends getting closer, neither of whom are THIS background character from the beginning.

with how much traction this manga is getting, an anime adaptation is entirely possible. regardless, this little detour was overall unnecessary, unless somehow Yami's story can tie into whatever themes Maruto is trying to present here in this story.

that goes both ways with her being pretty insensitive to him in the past, going as far as trying to hook him up with other girls as presented in ch. 12.
Can't fault her for being dishonest. If we remove their feelings towards one another from the equation and focus soley on their friendship, Hikari was open with Yuu about everything, meanwhile Yuu was having a second life he was deliberately hiding from Hikari.
Being insensitive doesn't require any malice, only stupidity, Hikari was being insensitive because she did not know any better. Yuu was actively hiding his relationship from Hikari, which is a consicous decision to keep her in the dark, it is a malicious betrayal of trust.

think there is a also very real chance that the reason Hikari started to fell in love with Yuu is because of his break up with Yami and his subsequent change (attitude/personality) because of it imo

yeah i could see that. and tbf the first 20 chapters we all thought we were getting a fluffy romance manga with a very cute female lead but then it was all taken away with a sudden tone shift. could see why Yuu/Yami become a target because of it lol

Well, if he actually didn't want to meet her, his reaction would obviously be less heated and more on a colder side. My point is, he was trying to avoid meeting her because of the potential complications it could lead to, not because of resentment or lack of interest. And (again, my assumption) once he didn't find her there, the feeling of actually wishing to meet her grew stronger and overcame the potential discomfort.
but then he saw Yami and then chase after her or something.
And that would already be very different from just coincidentally running into her.

malicious betrayal of trust is insane way to put it lol. Yuu and Hikari are just childhood friends man, they dont have to share every details of their life to each other. like Hikari hasnt even realise her feelings for Yuu during this time lol

"Malicious", as in, being conscious and proactive about doing something bad, unlike Hikari's stupid and accidental insensetiveness.
