All right I'll be fair to her. The decision she made is beyond stupid but you have to remember she's a teenager & going self destruct mode made more sense to her than anything else. Plus you have to factor in she grew up in a toxic environment so she is broken girl that will need to seek therapy or some form of help. The story fits real life really well & it doesn't break the immersion. You can disagree with me if you want (that is fine with me) but ask yourself this: what is the stupidest thing you did as a teenager that made no sense now that you are out of high school?

I did a very similar thing for similar reasons at a slightly younger age, so I relate to her a lot. When you're depressed, you want to cut contact from people, even people you love, because you don't want to take them down with you. It makes sense at the time, and only with time and recovery does it sink in how self-sabotaging it is.

This was a whole entire arc just to say “Yami and Yuu had a prior relationship, they fucked like rabbits, and Yami is a self-Sabatoging idiot” which all still need to be addressed and resolved in present day ANYWAY so putting so much time to page as a huge Backstory Dump instead of spreading it out to be dealt with when it actually matters narratively is just the author jerking off to his waifu.

Regardless of how I feel about the character, the last few pages and sequencing by Yom were really good at showing her anguish over everything.

It's the end of the predictable arc. It was fine, a bit overdramatic and over-angsty at times, and I think that on a purely romantic front, Yami feels like a better match and more "deserving", but at the same time this will tear apart their friendship, and I'm here for that trainwreck. I can only hope the author is actually done with the flashback that didn't have any real bearing on the story, and we can move on to the proper drama.

edit: hopefully we are not getting 10-20 weeks of Yuu's flashback now. I know we lack his PoV, and that his arc will probably be the finale, but I want it to be shown in current events, instead of a flashback. Imagine the comment section though, if it was revealed that Yuu was totally aware of what he was doing all the time, and was manipulating both of them.

If volume 2 actually contains a chapter 29.5, it's probably something else.

Based on this promo, it seems that the extra chapters are venue-exclusive bonus books.

I think the big issue is that this drama arc came out of nowhere in what was to this point a fluffy slice of life manga. If there was ample foreshadowing we would have looked forward to the revelation. Instead for a lot of people it's been a painfully long backstory

Most people would feel awkward telling their first love (who is also their childhood friend) that they found someone else, even if that love was unrequited.
As for why there were no rumors, he even lied to his parents and only met Yami in private. And since Hikari never found out either, it's safe to assume he was pretty secretive about it.
