wow, I haven't been reading the right shoujo mangas at all :smugnako: a schoolgirl prostitute trying to get her class prez raped is a pretty high score for me
Eh, like Aya hasn't actually engaged in sex work, it's still all some edgelord nonsense. She hooked up w/ Yuu when she 1st downloaded the app, then was holed up w/ her mom. This is her maybe 2nd attempt & like even odds that she just hasn't deleted the app and decided that this was the best way to mess w/ Hikari.

Which like yeah, as trash as this is, it's mild on the scale of sexual violence b/c it's public and Hikari can run. A very common trope is the rival getting her hook ups to kidnap and attempt to gang rape the lead - a variant is even in one of the most popular shoujos in the world, Hana Yori Dango. Which like I'm not a fan of how normalized weaponizing sexual violence is in shoujo, but it is generally regarded as a villain move.

ETA: I feel like I should be clear that this is all an argument against "Aya makes this manga interesting b/c she's unique" and not an "Aya isn't that bad actually" argument.

ETA2: also admittedly the childhood friend triangle genre could have gotten better in the years since I noped out.

is the author trying to save the story by introducing a rape scene? HELLO?? ARE YOU JUJIKA NO ROKUNIN??????
Yami just set up a underage sex for money deal in her name as a "prank" if you could call it that. Hikari should be able to just walk / run away.

It's still ridiculous that Yami tricked her into waiting for a pedophile who may or may not be violent. Also kinda doxx her photo and name to some shady service.

I was a full Yami simp since everything else felt within reason for her character, but now I can't see how this fits nor really support it.

Yami is really fucked up in this chapter. Everyone who tried to be nice to her she always wants to ruin them first. It's like she's trying to test them to see their limit. She's upset, so everyone should burn with her.
Don't know how many times she's done this, but she's been veeeeeeeery fortunate for it to not come back to her yet. All it takes is testing the wrong person before she gets herself killed ... though knowing her, maybe that's what she wants, getting herself into dangerous, suicidal situations to get out of the 'hell' she's dealing with at home.

It's a fucked up way trying to kill yourself without having to do it yourself, and while I find it understandable knowing what she's been through, that don't make her anymore sympathetic or 'likable' of a character in my book.

Did you know that if you ate about a trillion bananas, you'd receive a fatal dose of radiation from eating bananas? You'd also die from bursting your stomach and subsequent internal bleeding and extreme pain, but that's still better than the unknowable pain and misery of having to live with the condition of liking this manga.

That's still not excusing what she did, rn she just being piece of shit.

You do know I wasn't excusing Yami's behavior, right?
I was pointing out that Hikari is in a FAFO situation.

After the first encounter, she should've gone to the teacher and said she isn't capable of convincing Yami to become an active member of the class. Instead, she doubled down on trying to win Yami over.

But we see that Hikari wins that battle.
Or does she?

genuinely pissed that the story is going this way, it doesnt even fit the title anymore. at least have the courtesy to make it into another series or something and axe this one. i'd honestly rather see the original axed than see it going in this direction any further.

Welp, we all know they are gonna become friends, so it's obvious there'll be a redemption for Ayami's actions, no matter how twisted they (and her intent) actually were. Well, at least for everything until events of chapter 21 :shamihuh:

Looking back at 21, i think things could go in a few different directions based on whether:
1. Was that kiss just at the spur of the moment, and will the fact that Yuu is Hikari's crush keep Ayami from "going through" with it? Or she is already resolved to go for Yuu for real? If she is, will she be upfront with Hikari about that?
1. Will Hikari barge in or run away with her tail between her legs in the first place? Not much time will be left for "soul searching" if Hikari will confront them.

And they still became friends after this?
I'm sorry but how did they became friends ?
Well, since story is developing the same in the novel, we just have to keep reading to know.
But my guess would be that Ayami will have a little moment of remorse, and will save Hikari out of the "pinch" she herself put her in.
Alternatively, Hikari could be bailed out by Yuu, leading to her developing feelings for him or, there is also a slight possibility that Hikari could just walk away, without anything horrible happening.
In any case, i don't expect this situation to develop too far to be too traumatic for Hikari, so she would still be okay with trying to talk to Ayami.

it doesnt even fit the title anymore
It actually does, though. The title has this kind of a bittersweet ring to it, meaning that Hikari is facing the realization that she's late to the Yuu-party, and, honestly, she wasn't even invited :aquadrink:

A pedal stool
Those are actually a thing.
