In large part cause that's how they already played it with Aya - her insecurity spiral kept getting bigger until she ghosts, and that's when she has the big emotional breakdown.

I think the author's gonna play it again with Hikari, just different reactions (i.e. something else besides ghosting). Beyond that, I don't really have anything else to say.

Speaking facts but the Hikari simps in aren't gonna like it. Yami brought life to this manga and is more interesting. But you can tell the author is trying too hard and forcing it to bring hate to her as she was getting more attention and people cheering on her. Yami any day of the week. Not even close.

Yeah like I wouldn't have read this if I knew it was gonna be standard issue childhood friend triangle and I doubt I'm unique here. I avoid those shoujos like the plague and Aya is playing in the junior league compared to the sociopathy of the average childhood friend's (ex)-girlfriend.

ETA: The 1st girlfriend is almost always either toxic or broken (usually both) b/c then the female lead is not the bad guy for rescuing the boy from the situation (toxic gf) or moving on from the boy (broken gf).
