Ok, I'm super confused about this "canon" and "not canon" storyline. This has been having so may horrible plot twist that I don't know what's what.

I’m not familiar with Japanese law, so I asked ChatGPT to analyze the chapter and list the crimes Yami committed. Here’s what it came up with:
  • Child Exploitation and Child Pornography:
    • Japan has strict laws against the exploitation of minors. The Child Welfare Act and Act on Regulation of Child Prostitution and Child Pornography prohibit the creation, distribution, and possession of child pornography. If the picture of the underage girl is sexualized or used to promote sexual exploitation, it would fall under these laws.
Penalties: Up to 5 years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 5 million yen.
  • Human Trafficking:
    • Human trafficking, including for sexual exploitation, is illegal in Japan under the Act on Punishment of Activities Relating to Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, and the Protection of Children. If the girl is being exploited through a prostitution app, it would constitute trafficking. Japan also has international obligations to prevent human trafficking.
Penalties: Up to 7 years of imprisonment, potentially up to 10 years depending on aggravating factors.
  • Fraud and Deception:
    • Fraud is defined in Japan's Penal Code (specifically Articles 246 and 247) as deliberately deceiving someone to cause them harm or to gain something unjust. Tricking the girl into waiting in a location under false pretenses could be classified as fraud or deception.
Penalties: Up to 10 years of imprisonment and/or a fine, with harsher penalties for exploiting minors.
  • Conspiracy or Facilitation of Prostitution:
    • Facilitation of prostitution is illegal under the Prostitution Prevention Law (also known as the Anti-Prostitution Law). This includes arranging, aiding, or encouraging someone to engage in prostitution. If girl (1) is setting up the situation to exploit girl (2) for prostitution, she could be charged with this crime.
Penalties: Up to 3 years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 3 million yen, with potential for up to 5 years if involving minors.
  • Child Endangerment:
    • Child endangerment in Japan can involve putting a child at risk of harm, either physically or mentally. The Child Welfare Act requires the protection of minors from situations that could cause harm or exploitation. The act of tricking the girl into a potentially harmful situation could fall under this law.
Penalties: Up to 5 years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 5 million yen.
In summary, the penalties could range from 3 to 7 years in prison for each individual offense, with the possibility of longer sentences for aggravated crimes (such as those involving minors or organized criminal activity). For particularly severe or multiple offenses, the total sentence could be higher. Additionally, the court may impose fines alongside imprisonment.

If the crimes are prosecuted as a combination of offenses (e.g., trafficking, child pornography, and fraud), the sentences could be cumulative, leading to even longer prison terms.
Minors often just get slapped on the wrist though. Yami could very easily just get expelled from school (or not even that) because all of these crimes are the same incident. At least that's how it's usually depicted in manga and anime when delinquents are "punished".

Well, Yami is 17 years old, and based on my research, the minimum age of criminal responsibility in Japan is 14. This means that individuals aged 14 and older can be held criminally responsible for their actions and may face prosecution under Japanese law.

However, there are some nuances:
  • For children under 14, they are not held criminally responsible. Instead, they may undergo interventions under the Juvenile Law, which focuses more on rehabilitation and guidance than on punishment.
  • For those aged 14 to 19, cases are typically handled in Family Court, where the emphasis is on education and reform rather than strict punishment, unless the crime is particularly severe.
Since Yami’s potential crimes are pretty severe, she could be facing jail time.

But we all know that’s never gonna happen. Yami will likely come back, save Hikari, and Hikari will forgive her because... well, she’s Hikari. Any other reasonable person would probably tell Yami to go fuck herself.

So... This author wrote a whole arc to make readers sympathize with Yami and now trying to destroy all his effort in one ( may be 2) chapter ?

Clearly Hikari is gonna get out of this, but what if she didnt?
What if this actually led her to being sexually exploited?

This chick is a horrible person for doing Hikari like that, I really wonder how and why Hikari would even want to be friends with her
This is why this REALLY makes me hate Yami this could genuinely get dangerous it doesn't matter if ends horribly for her or not it's not excusable

Eh... I feel like the previous arc was trying to explain why Aya is a self destructive mess who pushes people away, but her behavior here is completely consistent with her behavior in the previous arc.

Which at best, looking back at that chapter, seems like the guy bailed the first time Aya tried this so maybe that's what Aya is (stupidly, recklessly) expecting to happen again.
