It could be both no? Like those thoughts of hers make her realise that she does wanted to get back together with Yuu after all and then she impulsively kiss Yuu eventhough she knows Hikari is in love with Yuu.

Agree with your point on it'd be good if Yami finally own up that she still very much in love with Yuu and want to get back together regardless of whats gonna happen between her and Hikari.
Cause i think her being fully honest here with Yuu could lead to the best possible outcome of Yami finally moving on and Yuu realising that he wanted to be with Hikari even with all of his shortcomings imo.

I sometimes feel like some of the discussions about Hikari treat her like a random girl that just showed up in Yuu's life and not his oldest/closest friend.

Which like I very much legit get why Yuu didn't say anything - all the reasons that make her the hardest person to talk to about this are also exactly the reasons he has to, which is why it looks to be the climax of this story.

True i think if I were in his shoes I'd want her to be the last person to know about my past and secrets because of how dear she is to me it's complicated and messy but I can see this manga ending soon after yuu's arc

That said, the whole chapter feels kind of pointless — it could’ve just shown what happened between Yami and Yuu when they met, instead of giving us yet another “sad girl vibes” chapter from Yami’s POV.

Actually no, at least in chapter 26 he asks her if she feels like attending school again. Since it takes place 3 months after their meeting, she skipped 3 months of school after their relationship started. She only started going to school again after ghosting him, so the only chance for him to learn about that was from Hikari.

If anything I'd say it's more impressive that Hikari never mentioned her friends by name before when speaking to Yuu.

We don't know if she did or not. Maybe she did at some point, a whole year passed. Or maybe she called her Aya and Yuu didn't realize it's her.
