"How do we emancipate Paul from his parents? A legal battle would be pretty protracted in this scenario, wouldn't it?"

"Uhhh they were involved in human trafficking this whole time actually, now we don't have to worry about it. Also the princess's boytoy is involved or something so we can tie it back into whatever conspiracy he's cooking up"

The trope is crossing the moral event horizon. The act varies, but the key is for the villain to be irredeemable in the eyes of the audience.

Yeah, I feel like the Prince was decently set up (if not terribly original) but the human trafficking is a bit "wuh huh?".

I think it might have worked better if it was some other crime, but I guess they just wanted to cut to the chase about why the family would be dissolved.

They could've had him embezzling money or withholding taxes owed to the crown or whatever. Given the dire straights that their house is in it would've been understandable and sensible and not just been "well, he's trafficking people"

Otherwise this was a perfectly fine chapter aside from the absolutely criminal lack of Kelly.

The most disappointing thing about this manga is how the trash dad doesn't get a well deserved beatdown. The most we can hope for that he gets his ass beat by the other prisoners in prison.

While I agree it wasn't set up perfectly, I think it's worth pointing out that there was some foreshadowing for the human trafficking allegation.

Specifically on page 18 of chapter 20, after they've received the messenger from Robin a butler asked the Marquis about 'the package from the palace' and the Marquis says to 'let them take the southern route'. His wife seems hesitant about the situation, which given her usual behaviour suggests it's something pretty bad. In hindsight this would seem to be a reference to the human trafficking with the involvement of the Evantale family seeming to be that they are letting the traffickers past through their territory freely.

How incompetent are the guards to have their weapon be stolen like that?

There is actually a small amount of foreshadowing for the human trafficking thing in chapter 20 page 18, when the father refers to the "package." I suppose it could have been set up better, but I still believe that this manga has decently light and fluffy romcom energy, so there's a lot of suspension of disbelief over realistic scenarios.

I'm relieved that the credits page meme is well-liked. 😂 I felt like it had to be done once I saw the arrest scene in this chapter. RIP Jack Karlson, an absolute legend.

Welp, that was fast, parents are just no longer a problem now lol.

The Beast Tamer manga official release is at 17, one chapter ahead of the scans and the next volume is releasing in January, unsure if the process of getting more staff to scanlate it is worth it with the next volume coming so soon

I'm not sure embezzlement would have been enough, but I could see them going in for some kind of treason to help "restore" the old ways.

That's the thing they've always been focused on, and "Robin said he'd let us do the ruling once he was King" is just the kind of stupid shit they'd fall for.

lmao
"I just didn't have the strength to carry the house any more"
What the heck is that little brat talking about? He was constantly talking shit about his sister and the only responsibility he had towards the house was appearing publicly ONCE. Meanwhile his sister was beaten each time she couldn't find a suitor, hard enough to leave scars she needs to hide now. She was made fun of for years, bullied on each social gathering/party yet she still did it. And lmao at the forced situation - the whole human trafficking and soldiers being so bad they not only failed to stop a fatso, they even gave him a weapon.

Honestly, even if it was some other crime to dissolve the house that was less grim (like fraud/embezzlement) I think I'd still have the "wuh huh" reaction here.

Like yeah, we know Robin's probably able to influence people due to having typical saint abilities, but I feel like we should've at least seen like, a few panels a few chaps ago hinting that the Evantales were up to sketchy business. First learning about it at the same time they get arrested for it just feels like a total asspull.
When i did a rereading the part before the father was told about Paul's "kidnapping" he was talking about transferring a package he meant the woman.

Good catch, though I still mostly stand by my post there since that level of hinting that mostly works in retrospect doesn't really help much with story beats feeling like they were out of nowhere or not (though there is a hint that they're doing something unscrupulous from the wife's reaction, there's not much of a hint that it's on the level of house-destroying-if-found-out). Though I will admit I was wrong about it being totally out of thin air.
