this story is a mess we spent most of our time getting harassed by this antagonist only to reveal a "good side" backstory and for the protagonist to thank him for keeping him company up until now...

it probably could pull that off if we actually had more story and background to go off of, but overall this whole ordeal just feels shallow af because of the pacing

Her mother made it for her. Some bullies threw it on the riverbank and Eiji helped her find it. I guess she stopped using it, but now she is again, showing she's a good person again? The backstory was in chapter 7

What the hell even is this? Is it supposed to be funny that the MC thanks the guy for being an asshole to him? Are we supposed to think the MC is great and saintly because he's apparently too thick to recognize that the other guy was being a judgemental, selfish prick the whole time? Are we supposed to believe this is some sort of tsunder-bro "I wasn't doing it to be nice to you, baka!" crap and not take it at face value?

All this build for his "friend" to be the guy in his way, then turn what's set up like a fluffy flashback into scenes of the MC being a cheery doormat and then try and salvage it with a couple of pages of Aoi being cute and him sort of kind of standing up for himself...

This is rapidly becoming trash. Even the bit afterwards with the blonde gal making that stupid tongue-sticking-out-and-winking face (which I detest to no end) was kinda dumb.

Let this artist go back to the story about the high school guy and his teacher. At least that was kind of sweet. Dude's cute art is wasted on this evolving-into-awful plot.

That's what I feel like. I adored Sensei Can't Teach me Love especially because of the art. Potential cringiness of the plot (teacher/student sorta-romance-at-a-distance) aside, and the rushed, awkward ending, it was adorable and I loved almost all of it.

Here we get the same art that reminds me of that series, but we're 8 chapters in and I want to take a baseball bat to multiple characters because everything and everybody is just. so. freaking. DUMB.

What's interesting is that this author has one other title listed on Mangadex, a josei romance series that also has a separate artist, but has 0 translated English chapters for me to use as a point of comparison of writing quality (though just using the Mangadex rating, it's lower than this. But how this story has an 8.39 is baffling even when you account for the fact that people generally don't understand how scales out of 10 are supposed to work.).

And I know this just isn't going to end up a translator issue because Toruscans normally does a pretty solid job.

Maybe this is a case of a josei author trying their hand at shonen and being drastically out of their depth?

Honestly . . . . I feel really bad to Eiji in this chapter. Hes soooo loner to the point hes grateful someone is bein an ass to him as he prob literally doesent have anyone to interact to.

But oh well at least now hes engaged to the beautiful charmin sweet Aoi there. So I guess that evens out ??

On the other hand I really hope Eiji can man up more through chapters especially when other girl starts clinging to him. Push her away my guy ESPECIALLY when your beautiful charmin sweet fiancee is there!
