No no no

It's impossible to decontaminated fish infested by parasites, raw.

how about tiny (1 mm) parasite, How about parasite eggs spread in whole body via blood vessel. Parasite in meat is one of the worst, I've seen articles about Chinese woman with ~60% total weight made of worms because habit eating raw meat. I always ask medium well / well done for my meat unless I can get guarantee about meat quality.

Modern society got medicine / anthelmintic to easily cure minor infestation unlike isekai without cure cheat.

Carpacchio is an Italian food, I think. But still, in a world where the culture is equated to middle ages, I always find it hard to believe that 'everyone' loves the raw fish and fermented foods brought out by the Japanese MC's. I personally like sushi and sashimi, but I know a lot of people who can't stand it. And natto...

Oh well, it is exactly what I would expect from a japanese food manga.

So many "superior japanese" and "superior earth" tropes in this chapter. And I dont really get why he cant explain that he cooked one fish because it wasnt safe to eat raw. They are medieval ppl, they should have the sensibilities to know that some food arent always safe uncooked. All he does is explain one of the reasons why that is. Even most modern ppl can take the knowledge that their food wasnt safe before being cooked, although some ppl freak out when they realize food comes from animals or earth, and isnt grown including packaging in chemical sterile vats.

@Doomer raw fish is more nutritious than cooked, the manga didnt lie about that. I dont like fish either way, but that is besides the point. Its the same reason most veggies are served raw.
Although I have never heard that you could make an infected ingredient safe to eat raw by pulling out all parasites by hand. Even if they were visible to the eye even when new, there is no guarantee you didnt miss any.

Dear Japan.

Basically every country that borders a lake or sea has some variation on "Raw Fish/Meat + Binding Agent + Slight Curing Liquid/Solid". Sashimi is nice but largely unremarkable as a food in the context of world cooking.

Sincerely

since this isnt porn and hes clearly not talking about a guro fetish (dont ask if you dont know, cuz u DONT WANT TO KNOW) guro should be translated as "Grotesque" which is what it's short for

I understand Japanese niceties and all, but just because the little girl caught the contaminated fish doesn't mean you HAVE to eat it...

@Vasqueztion You right, though also it is fair to say he's the most qualified for removing all the contamination of anyone, at least.

Fun fact, even in Japan sushi was originally something largely only eaten by poor people. It's really only in the 20th century when it started to become considered a delicacy.

A lot of foods are like that really. It's pretty interesting.

that's why he cooked the infested one, and he do have a power to know if it's dangerous or not so it's safe

@Doomer There are surprisingly a lot of non Japanese that likes Sashimi though. In fact, I prefer sashimi over steamed fish and some chinese style fried fish, definitely more than internal organs. Never tried carpacchio though. That being said, my non-existent sense of smell may have something to do with it as all the people I know that hates raw fish are either...

1. Hates eating cold food unless it's ice cream.
2. Hates the 'fishy smell', whatever that is, I can't smell ;_;
3. Hates seafood in general
4. Culturally intolerant to raw food (i.e refuse to even try it. Also me, before I eventually tried it.)
5. All of the above.

There are also different types of sushi/sashimi thing with very different taste. Which one did you try and from where? I am interested.
i.e. Salmon tasted fine to a friend. Sea Urchin gets the "Dear Gods! No! Keep that 100m away from me!" treatment.

Also, what stories did you read? The stories I read don't have sushi being the 'superior food'. Its always curry. Any and all types of fking curry.

@lazygeko I am an adventurous person so I tried natto... not in Japan though so it may be a discount knockoff. It tasted like coffee (which I hate) :/. Some slimy bitter weirdness. Its probably an acquired taste. And yes, Carpaccio is an italian food. As far as culture is concerned it is more a matter of whether they would even try the food. I personally believe there is not much variety in the middle ages so almost anything modern would 'taste good' provided the others are willing to take a first bite.

On a completely unrelated note, I hate internal organs. With permission, I took a bite out of my aunt's foie gras. Tasted like dirt. Then there is fried pork intestines(crunchy, oily, supposedly goes well with congee porridge), monkey brains(it exists once upon a time, never tried it, don't give me that look.), the heart-of-some-creature-mixed-with-something-else-from-somewhere-and-is-considered-a-delicacy-which-my-brother-in-law-once-told-me-about-but-i-can't-remember, fish/prawn/crab heads (brains included because it was never removed). Pork bloods (taste like bad jelly to me but I am the one that hates it so...)

I ALSO hate fishballs... and fishcake, and fishnoodles. So that fishball dish looks really unappetizing. Even then, fishball is something popular and widely eaten in the East so this is... believable.

@Metal_Storm Nope. My country borders the ocean and does not have any of its own variation on "Raw Fish/Meat + Binding Agent + Slight Curing Liquid/Solid". Just saying.

Though I agree on Sashimi being 'unremarkable' in terms of 'cooking' (the knifework of some masters are good though) Basically, I treat it like salad.

your misunderstanding comes from the fact that it removes parasites which is a normal practice, even if you know that you are going to cook the meat it is obvious that you will not leave worms if you see them

@feha
"Although I have never heard that you could make an infected ingredient safe to eat raw by pulling out all parasites by hand."
he removed the parasites, but he cooked it in the soup, so it's not raw, it's boiled

@Deonepiece
"It's impossible to decontaminated fish infested by parasites, raw."
he only removed the larger ones, which anybody would do when he saw them in the animal
and after he boiled it, so nothing extraordinary

@Nep

"foie gras. Tasted like dirt"
I doubt
it's not "foie gras" but "foie" that you have eaten !
the "foie gras" is geese or ducks

I think you have eaten beef or cow liver "foie"
who may have a taste of dirt if of poor quality and badly prepared cooked
