Question is, how fast would it move?
Then there is also the question of air safety as well, as the chance of being attacked by aerial monsters would be high as well.
Plus, hot air balloon's movements are heavily affected by whether and wind.
Fair point, the Hindenburg was quite good at both though, and the risk of explosion can probably be mitigated with some magick.

By the looks of the imagery used, Myabi doesn't just have trains in mind, but a full on subway system. A lot of this becomes a lot easier with that in mind. We already know Myabi can just tunnel easily. And tunnels innately will be far more secure than above ground, so monster will be less likely attack the tracks. Also no need to take into account map topography or land ownership. Straight route underground. Four train tracks, two eastward/ westward bound tracks split into commuter and cargo lines, with 1-2 trains per line.

Sure, they'll need some start up capital and governmental approval, but he literally knows the crown Prince. Infrastructure projects are huge economic boon for a country as well. Job creation, investment, ticket revenue, tax on goods. And any under ground caves full of monsters that appear the along the way, will just turn into Adventurers guild quests for Myabi and his party to handle. The hardest part will be getting engineers for the train construction and training drivers. As far we know, Myabi hasn't shown the ability to create something as complex as train. The parts for one sure, but functioning train is harder... Then again, magic trains designed by the professor(s) from the academy?

Not when you have dragons, etc, that might want to eat them.
An underground train route would be safest, and no need to clear snow from the tracks in winter.
didn't they just encounter a slime breading ground by trying to make a tunnel?
its not exactly safe either...

I love how Liz feel she to lucky recently that she feel restless like something worst about to happen to her.
Because she wasn't really lucky. She is being used by the nobles (specially the princess) in order to keep Miyabi around / free him of her. Because if she continues to be an adventurer, Miyabi is gone along side her and he won't be an asset to be utilized anymore. They are literally pampering her in order for her to stay in the academy and disband the party she has with Miyabi.

the real question is how to pilot the thing. That single reason makes trains much more useful in this world, since it's single axis movement vs 2d (left right forward back) for cars, or 3d with planes, which would require training, and for miyabi himself to understand it (cars is prob doable, but planes have lots of factors because of stuff like roll, and it'd suck if they just magic away the difficulties of controlled flight)
but that is exactly what i mean with being able to do it easily.
with enchantments, the levitation part is probably easy to accomplish.
with golems, the fine adjustments and balancing can be done automatically.
and with simple wind magic, the propulsion is also easy to work out.
alternatively he could also go for an airship approach, which mostly solves the training issue since they would only need to adjust to the flying aspect.

Well that's a "if no bread(fast road) let's eat cake" moment with the train, but he might pull it off with the prince's help.
Ohhhhh!!!!! I like where your head went with this. I didn't even consider the timing. With Miyabi's skills and his wealth and it being a public good that would improve commerce and be a good feather in his cap as a crafter prince this could be epic!

Well at least she somehow understood that princess were in it for herself from the begining first and foremost no matter how "kind" her intentions overall are. They want to snag Miyabi for their own usage (for the prince and other things) by separating them.

I thought that was the important part but everyone else talking about fucking trains lol
You got a point there. Let's separate and exploit for national good
