It's a Japanese thing. By 25 you're supposed to have married and started to put down roots and everything, by 30 you're supposed to have a career.

There's also that joke about how if you can stay a virgin by 30 you become a sage.

Basically 30 is considered "grown up" whereas 18-29 are considered goofin' around years still.
