Using hypnosis to get them to tell the truth is OP, and morally a little gray. We're ok with it because they were criminals and because MC is a 100% pure good boy. And the director is an unserious goof who got cucked by those criminals.

Imagine it outside of this manga, however. There's no way to guarantee the hypnotic suggestion was "tell the truth" opposed to "tell me what I want to hear." It's very easy to abuse. That's a scary scary superpower.

It's nothing new really
1. "tell me what I want to hear" is done all the time through lobbying and blackmail, or if those aren't possible there are other methods
2. there were recordings of people in power saying shit in similar fashion and literally nothing happened (at best it became a meme)

Weird, it seems like MC at the end didnt' want them to die, but they only survived because they got saved, and I doubt that better equipment would have done anything.
Could be a mistake in the story flow as this chapters were originally split in multiple parts and the mangaka had second thoughts, or maybe MC didn't expect them to be so weak and the hypnosys was programmed to dispel after they struggled a bit.
Is even possible he was furious and not thinking clearly.

They got off too easily considering they are sacrificing kids lives and scheming to create a new slavery system. At a minimum he could have them appear on TV and share evidence of their plans along with naming their co-conspirators in the government. Yeah but he probably wanted them to experience a honest day work as an adventurer, he did suggest that they take equipment, but they underestimate it so much sa they interpreted the suggestion and didn't take anything other than basic stick
they should be ded but mangaka was probably directed to not to so they got a lucky break and get saved
