Now he has money, support, fighting companions, and no real urgency. He also has vastly improved capabilities with his abilities.

While finding someone who speaks the language would be nice, it’s not as nice as having a super easy to please catgirl in the harem. One who he can probably adjust the skills of to make it super easy to learn languages. I guess, haven’t watched the anime.

tldr: I wouldn’t take this harem manga that seriously. Sexy catgirl beats useful translator any day.

He can see her info stat page amoung others when looking at her. The manga is glossing over it because at this point, every reader should know it. He clearly said that everyone but her wasn't interesting in that regard. Manga artist probably figures it's pointless to show that now because the scene is buzy enough.

tldr: I wouldn’t take this harem manga that seriously. Sexy catgirl beats useful translator any day.

Devil's advocate : I don't think this story is like Tou no Kanri wo Shitemiyou. Slingerman does have some point though.

I know that's quite far in the future, but she doesn't seem to like Michio that much, is always making a sus face to him on money transactions because of the 30% discounts and let's be honest, Michio tries to look good instead of being honest and open up about his flaws with the girls because he is too insecure, so I thought she wouldn't be so dedicated to him to that extent. I didn't read the novel, but I hope they change that too, I know Roxanne loves him to death, but she shouldn't be mean to the other girls :c

I dunno man, this whole thing felt pretty lame narratively to me. I'm not asking for high art but, man, we gotta get something deeper and more emotionally attached than 'fish' and 'he gives me fish' sparking the decision to choose her.

I thought with the focus on his previous two slaves, he was gonna be super picky about personality. Nah, they give it a little lip service in how Roxanne is jealous and happy about how the new girl MIGHT be like based on stereoptypes, which seems to be more important to him than discovering what the new gals personality is like.

I guess maybe you could say this reflects what he wants, which is to keep Roxanne happy, but he could also have done that without a new gal. I dunno, maybe I'm being picky today.

To summarize his thought process:

He wants someone attractive, willing to have sex, that gets along well with the rest of the party, willing to work hard and go into labyrinths and, above all, obedient/loyal enough to keep secrets. His abilities are stupidily broken after all, and if it got out, he would be the target of the entire world.

I believe the reason he isn't that concerned with the girl's abilities is because of how the "system" works in that world, as well as his abilities. As long as he knows the actions and conditions necessary to unlock clases, he can freely raise her to become whatever he needs (warrior, thief, assassin, mage, herbalist...) and change the class and equipment on the fly.

The only thing he can't control are racial traits. Roxanne's race (wolfkin?) has the Beast Warrior class for example, as well as her sharp sense of smell, humans have Sex Maniac, etc. These things still matter, but pale in comparison to everything else I explained above.

Also, remember that the price of a slave depends on their "value". A slave with a higher level and abilities is more expensive than one without. When you consider how quickly he can mold them into the perfect party member with his cheats, raising them from zero is just more economically viable.

TL;DR

What matters most is personality, attractiveness and willingness to have sex. Pretty much everything else he can control.

Unless I'm forgetting, wasn't his reason for going to the slave shop just to find another fighter? When he specifies "someone who speaks Brahim" he's not looking for someone specifically for Brahim (since they can all do that already), he's just asking that as a convenience thing. So he didn't come here for someone to make communication easier, if she can fight, he still got what he came for (since he can teach her what's necessary with some extra effort), just that it's slightly less convenient than he was hoping for.

Page 5 explains everything we need to know about Michio's decision. Also he's at a luxurious slave market in the capital and she is the cutest girl in the place, that's impressive in itself I'd say, how's that not gonna be a super plus in his choice?

He's building a harem first and foremost, reread chapter 4 and tell me sex with a hot girl is not the most important after all (most, not the only thing obviously), he has the skills to do everything else he needs.
