Why can't he just convince her? No matter how low his charisma is, it succeeds all the time 5% of the time!

I think is a very good demonstration as to the min-max strategy's flaws in DnD. It almost reads like satire.

I really don't get the use of religion in these fantasy stories. These "gods" demonstrably do things that tangibly affect the real world. Having devout faith in them is like having devout faith in water being wet.

There's no reason as far as I can tell that she would be completely attached to her patron deity because it says nothing about her conviction to have faith in something that definitely exists.

@Aretheus Faith doesn't mean believing that something exists. It means you trust something (and in this context, you therefore agree with its ideals). The reason the word faith is used for believing the Christian god exists is because you would necessarily trust the Christian god if he were real, since his existence is defined as perfect. If you look at something like the greek gods they were very flawed and people believed in all of them but only followed the ones they agreed with the most.

@mommunism You can't tell me that you're Christian just because you follow the tenets of Christianity without actually believing that God himself exists. Polytheistic Gods were just ways for people to rationalize the horrible and amazing things that happen in this twisted world of ours.

To believe in Buddhism doesn't just mean that you act in accordance to those beliefs, but that you believe you will be rewarded with an ascension to nirvana if you are successful.

That's the scam of any religion that tells you of a reward only after death. There's no way to prove it. But these fantasy religions always give their rewards to the living which makes the whole point of faith moot.

I can agree that there is an element of faith with regards to believing that the teachings of a religion will lead to a fulfilling life, but that could be said of anything that anyone says. That doesn't make Dr. Phil or Jordan Peterson a God of his own religion.

@Aretheus

As mommunism was pointing out, faith is more a matter of the philosophy or ideals the god presents. That's what separates them from any other powerful class of being in this context (besides level bonuses). The gods each have a world view and make demands of their followers behavior. The follower has to make some change in their life to match them. In real life, this is the difference between "faith" and a "dead theory". Using the old example, you could say you believe fairies exist, but if that thought has no impact on the choices you make in life, it is a dead theory. Similarly, if you say you believe in Christianity, Buddhism, or any other religion but ignore their ideals or just pick and choose only the aspects that you would act on anyway while ignoring the rest then your "belief" in these religions is actually just a dead theory.

@Aretheus I don't know a lot about theology, but I look at it not as having "faith" or "belief" in certain gods, but as a matter of active "worship". Like you said, everyone in the world knows that all the gods are real as they have demonstrative powers, so to show your faith to a specific god you actively worship them and live your life by their values. Just my opinion, but I would've used "worship" or something similarly "active" in the translation to make it clearer

That faith bonus is amazing though. She can easily keep her warhorse fully healed with it while it goes trashing mobs.
Get some resist element: acid and enlarge + animal growth + magic fang buffs on it and it could probably kill the dragon with a dedicated healer.

Hello people, would you please consider changing to my faith? Supposedly you get free mayonnaise, but there is no guarantee.
