they're trying to make him out to be a bad guy but is he really? he hired you guys to be his guards for the trip and not only did you go against his orders and run off to fight orcs leaving him and his caravan undefended but now you want him to leave all his goods behind so he can taxi these people for free to his destination. is he gonna get compensated for this? somehow doubt it

I understand the merchant's point of view. If someone needs a lift, but I have to lose my luggage in the process, of course I would protest. But that's the perspective of a poor or novice merchant.

If I were a rich merchant, in case of an emergency, I would probably also consider the potential damage to my reputation compared to my profit and the possibility of future gains and losses, especially during a monster attack.

But since he's already known as a ruthless merchant, maybe it doesn't matter.

I'm betting that the old merchant somehow knows about the MC's storage space skill, and is gonna ask him if he can store the merchants items in his storage space, so they can take the villagers with them... I'm hoping that the old man is gonna turn out to not be as nasty as the rumors portray him to be... but that's probably unlikely

Thanks for the new chapter!

If only Sora's storage/item box skill level is high enough, maybe he'd be able to store all of the Aurora Company's items and luggages, that might be able to help free up the carriages for the refugees to ride on.

This can go a number of ways.
A)The old merchant ends up being as vile as they say and somehow recognizing the true identity of the MC(or that of the girl) he'll try to blackmail him with it in order for the MC to side with him in.
B)The Merchant ends up being as vile as they say and has some kind of Appraisal skill(not that far fetched for a famous successful merchant)and has appraised the MC and he knows that he has the storage skill he'll try to coerce the MC to use his skill to carry the merchandise(or even blackmail/entice him to work for him permanently).
C)The Merchant is not a bad guy ,but he has to keep up appearances of being ruthless or his rivals within the company will "eat him alive".
D)A mix of the above.

Hopefully, the villainously looking guys being actually reasonable is a favourite trope for me (best example the faraway paladin)

... I think this guy is forgetting that in order to make 'profit', he'll need customers to sell wares to. You can't really make profit off of dead people, unless you're the lowest of the low and literally profit off of dead people.
If he's primarily catering to nobles some poor villagers who lost nearly everything won't buy anything from him.

Also it happens all the time, especially in media nowadays. Every left wing (that is the corner I primarily perceive) movie, series or video game starts off by alienating and antagonizing "toxic" fans, then failing brutally, followed by media shills doubling down on it being the "toxic fandom"'s fault for not eating every shit up after being cussed out.

I gotta ask - where'd your credits page come from? Like who are those characters?

This is like worrying that Elon Musk will go hungry because he loses a few of his Tesla to drive people who are in danger to safety. Money can be made again. People can't be revived. The guards had two choices: run off to fight orcs, or keep going and let the villagers die. What would you do? Now, he has two choices: leave his goods behind, which can be retrieved again later/be compensated by the authorities/take a loss which means nothing to his massive wealth; or let these people die. What would you do?

The fact that you have to say this makes me not want to hear the answer already.

Sora has an item box skill right? I wonder if the merchant somehow knows that he does either through a spell to inspect his status or he saw him use it at some point. If he did, it'd be up to Sora to take the risk of exposing this valuable skill to a lot of people to store the goods himself and make room for the refugees.

A fandom is better off without toxic incels. They'd just harass everyone else, anyway. Right wing fanboys are free to make their own shits if they want.
