Gonna use the ex so Hiromi can get out of this without being the bad guy? Lame
I've still got a (probably vain) hope it's going to turn out more complicated than that. One of the things I liked about this series is that while Hiromi has many (somewhat unrealistically) good qualities like most manga protagonists, he's still got flaws, as his relationship with Lily clearly demonstrated. (I loved Fujiko bawling him out with "that's not childish, that's fetus behavior!")

If this really does just end with Nonoka dumping him to go back to her ex, that's disappointing. I know their relationship has to collapse for the sake of maintaining the core share house story, but I kind of wanted to see it break down the way that most relationships break down: because of mutual immaturity or insecurity on the part of both partners, not just one.

I was wondering how we'd get a progress reset and here it comes from the bushes.

Did not expect her ex-fiance literally creeping out of the bushes to ambush her like this. Is this a signal that she's about to get Cold Feet and not follow through with her plans to move in with Hiromi? That'd honestly be more than a little shitty, but I'm betting she still has Anju's words bouncing around in her head, and this guy is the one that she could 'mother' for in a relationship, which seems to be her thing, even if she griped about it.
This exact situation.
NGL this isn't wrong, and Anju was sort of a dick and clearly with ulterior motives but she certainly wasn't WRONG

I'm convinced that Hiromi and Nonoka aren't ending up together, so that's the lens I'm interpreting through. But either way it will be interesting to see how exactly it all shakes out.
There is 0% chance he's moving out of the share house, or at least not any longer than he was visiting grandma.

let sasuga cook. she knows what she is doing.
Yeah Sasuga Kei about to pull some of the most nonsense bullshit in the upcoming chapters

The ex looks like a bum with no future, I'm pretty sure they are going to get back... Nonoka is the classic nice girl with savior complex that fks her life.
If only Hiromi met Nonoka right after his break up instead of the ending up in the Sharehouse huh?

Do you guys see what I'm seeing? Sasuga Kei set up Hiromi longing for Lily. Then she introduces Nonoka's ex to break things up again.

So will Hiromi end up running to Lily for comfort, stirring up the supposedly resolved hearts in the rest of the sharehouse?

Chika was gunning for settling for Hiromi bc, after her attempt at chasing a high society alpha gigachad and failing spectacularly, she wanted an idiot low maintenance beta provider she could make him a fool and let her cuck him or some similar shit. Hiromi picked up and chose to cut that tie. However, he made the mistake of fucking her. And seems he didn't use condom that time.

Issue is that instead of having a time alone to process things and find himself, he instantly engaged into a relatipnship w/ Lili, so it seemed a rebound and an attemptnto escape from Chika.

Funny how when Lili's classmate & friend Hodoka, guess who was the one who said Lili and the other painter would make a great couple... iirc, it was Anju.

And Hiromi's relationship w/ Nonoka had its days numbered... once again thanks to Anju and the diabolus EX nihilo. Worse shit is that the root reason Hiromi once again entered into a relationship was to escape from a previous break. And at first it seemed to look like Hiromi was trying to take back at Lili.

Hiromi in a certain way, not only comes as extremely flawed and a coward one, but as a lowkey resentful one too.

Ohhh right right, but I can't remember the key detail as to how Hiromi finally realized he's being used. Like the moment he developed a bit during that arc.

It's hard for me to keep track of his copes when they align so perfectly with his goal of wanting to get married and have a happy family ASAP. I mean like, is he getting into another relationship because that's his goal? Or does he just wanna feel good again from whatever disaster he went through last time.

Yup. Anju is the destabilizer/deconstructor role of the story. If something doesn't work, Sasuka Kei tends to show it through Anju. The anti-thesis to Hiromi's flaw as a stabilizer due to his pathological caretaking and boundary-less attitude. But it seems like he's doing it less now. We'll see what happens when the pressure cooker amps up after his break up with Nonoka.

I always knew that Nonoka was gonna break up. I'm just surprised with how fragile they were. Lili and Hiromi seemed to hold on stronger than these two. At least they talked about what things mean to them in the moment. But with Nonoka and Hiromi it was always this abstract goal. The picture of them was never really being painted, if you get what I mean?

Hiromi in a certain way, not only comes as extremely flawed and a coward one, but as a lowkey resentful one too.

I dunno about resentful... regretful maybe? He couldn't even focus on the move. He kept thinking about Lili in a nostalgic way. Like... wasn't it shown everything is good between them during that night drive back in Wakayama?

Oh boy. Why is the author trying to fake us out with Tsubasa still, even though she is best girl before the coworker thing.
sleeping with the first guy she met after heartbreak makes her trash tier and makes that guy garbage even though the mangadex comment section tries very hard to justify it

“best girl before the coworker thing” meaning she lost that title after that choice was made. If you aren’t best girl, then you are irrelevant.

Sasuga Kei, the ye old classic lmfao. Ex comes back, MC maybe gets upset, strife ensues, misunderstanding arc or cheating arc, resolution arc or seperation arc and then new girl to run it with all over again. Classic.

I'm currently working on Volume 4, so I checked on this: he's explicitly shown using a condom when they have sex in her apartment (Chapter 25, page 29), but not when they have sex again in the hotel (Chapter 26, page 57). I also checked Ch52, when he has sex with Nonoka -- again, there's a panel dedicated to showing him opening a condom.

So yes, she's, um, Chekhov's womb?

Ohhh right right, but I can't remember the key detail as to how Hiromi finally realized he's being used. Like the moment he developed a bit during that arc.
He overhears Chika on the phone talking to her friend about how he makes her life so easy doing all the cooking and cleaning, and how she's decided her ideal man doesn't have the "three highs" (三高, sankō, an entrenched concept in modern Japanese culture: high prestige education, tall height, high income) but rather the "four lows" (四低, yontei, a much newer concept that entered pop culture in the 2010s): low ego, low dependence, low risk and low maintenance (低燃費, teinenpi, lit. "low fuel consumption", meaning frugal). He realizes she's just looking at him as a permanent servant.

Since I don't have a better way of conducting a poll: I'm curious for people's opinions on how I've been handling sound effects in this series. Do you prefer:
  1. Keep the original Japanese artwork entirely intact, and translate sound effects with margin notes, like I did for chapters 59-73 and Volume 1, or
  2. Erase the Japanese SFX, redraw the gaps and replace them with English words where appropriate, like I did for Volumes 2 and 3 and Chapter 74?
I changed on this partway through as I got more comfortable that I could redraw even very large SFX plausibly (modern generative AI is a huge help with this; takes what used to be hours and can turn it into a couple of minutes). But I want to standardize the series on one form or the other.

React to this post with a "Like" for option 1 or a "Strike" for option 2. I'll look at where it's at next week when Ch75 releases and make a decision.

Worse. Her destabilizing/hellraising tendencies come from the fact she wants Hiromi for herself and if he can't be hers, then nobody will have him. Anju's one of the few who doesn't have an alternative interest orbiting her unlike Tsubasa, Lili, Mio and Nonoka.

If Sasuga decides to finish this manga and go the scorched earth route, then it's obvious she'll use Anju as the one who goes scorched earth on everything... and it will be probably bc Hiromi will reject her again.

Anyway, i'd lmao if the Hiromibowl gets reduced to 3 contestants: Anju, Lili and Chekhov's womb Chika.

Honestly, it would be pretty ballsy and could make for a good story if Chika shows up pregnant, Hiromi marries her out of a sense of obligation, and the story continues with the two of them both learning how to adult and changing as people -- him becoming less passive and her becoming less selfish if they want a happy ending. Or failing to do so and getting an unhappy ending, though I don't think Sasuga would write that: she likes happy endings, at least by her definition of happy. Arguably that was the single greatest flaw with Domekano: she wanted a specific happy ending and fumbled the route to get there.

But I don't think this is that kind of story, and I think there's a very strong hint about what kind of story it is on literally the very first page of the manga: Hiromi as narrator is musing about wanting a family, while the ordinary daily life of the sharehouse is playing out in the background, indicating the real theme of the series: the sharehouse is the happy family he's been wanting. It's just not the traditional atomic family he imagines. However "Hiromibowl" resolves, I don't expect the sharehouse family to irreparably shatter (though it will certainly go through strain, because Sasuga loves her drama).

I kinda think the most likely way the Chika situation will be used is that she'll show up pregnant, Hiromi will dutifully get back with her out of a sense of responsibility, and then it will turn out it's not his kid, it's the kid of the guy she dumped him for, and "let's get back together" was her attempt to saddle him with the child.
