Knew it, ever since Rei mentioned something about her past, I felt he and MMC met when they were kids.
And I'm pretty sure he may have said something that inspired her to become an idol too.

Ah, the childhood trope. What's next? They're going on totally-not a date and some thugs try to hit on Rei so MC can come to her rescue?

... Yeah, I don't like Mia. Cunning, and also has potential to be manipulative, all for her own enjoyment. I'm following MC's footsteps and never going to take any statement from her seriously going forward.

every rom-com always ticks the checkbox of that one time they met some significant other when they were super young, like ALWAYS...... it's been a standard since like nisekoi or something I swear
And I'm pretty sure nisekoi took that idea from Love Hina, which took it from an even older manga... It's how things go

I don't see what's "needlessly manly" about that.

Most people saying, "Just kidding," are only taking back what they said because they're insecure.

What's to question about that sleeping posture? Looks comfortable enough. Well, the floor might be a bit hard.

That's a weird way to dream. Dreams tend to inexplicably make sense from within.

And typical previous childhood encounters.

I'm told that childhood friends never win
You've been lied to. Being a childhood friend is actually not an indicator for winning. It's just a common trait that is always tacked onto at least one character in a romcom. If that happens to be the FMC, she can win. If it's a secondary love interest, probably not. And considering there are on average more of the second category than the former, more lose than win.

Though from my recollection the type of childhood friend that's forgotten and is only remembered partway into the story tends to be more common for the FMC, since it's a "destined love" indicator.

I have to admit, the trope of them having met as kids is getting tired. Not every romance in the world has to have a destined bond from childhood.
I agree that it's a trope, but there's plenty romcoms where it either isn't present at all, or reversed.

We all saw that coming; but I wasn't expecting the revelation so soon, let alone so clearly

Ah shit, here we go again. Worst place in the world, Copypaste Childhood Friend country. I ain't read such Usual Trope in 5 weeks, but the Manga Authors won't give a shit.
