@Writerfromanotherstar The thing about alcohol/drugs isn't that I doubt they can change a person for the worse, what I doubt is that they change somebody to pinpoint specifics of "being a tyrant". It'd have made sense if she started to be erratic, and so on, but it'd also have been quite clearly notable for the people around her. It's not the sort of change that's so subtle the people close to you will confuse it with an ordinary change in personality, and it won't be so consistent you'll just accept it as their "new self".
So that's one issue.
And the other one is that it's basically a boring setup; there isn't even any interesting long-term side-effects of the drugs or anything. She just stops taking them, done, everything's fine again. If she had some serious personality issues now or needed some long-term treatment to get over some effects of the drugs that at least would have added something to the plot.

@Pyoro Well, that's your perspective. I've seen cases as I've mentioned so it's fine to me.

The story isn't done or far enough for you to say that there are no long-term effects of the drugs. If they were really drugs (Since magic is an element to this). But it's pretty common in many of these types of stories that once the soul changes, the new soul is no longer under the control of such substances because in their previous life they weren't . But who knows

@pyoro from what I gathered(and I may be wrong here) basically duke got her hooked on booze and drugs and she just fucked around in the palace and let him do most of the administrative work/ hand out orders, so most of the tyrannical shit would be his doing while she didn't hear anything as she was to busy having a train be run on her.

Basically the Empress had shit put in her liquor and became a muddle headed drug addict. ....and none of her subordinates thought "....maybe we should temporarily isolate her and stab the guy who is so very OBVIOUSLY pulling her strings?" and went straight to "let's rebel" ....really guys? Clearly none of you should ever be placed in command of ANYTHING ever (except Felix. We cool bro). Also I like how she totally BSed her way through releasing them. That gives her points for style.
