From what I've seen of that technique is that all it does is give you an animal form and make you stronger and faster for maybe a minute or until you take too much damage and then it leave you wide open when it runs out. It just seems weak as fuck to me.

The Queen is actually not thinking that? Her entire thing has been trying to make her son Toun, The King despite the law being that only someone with Divine Possession can take the throne. She thinks highly of Divine Possession like everyone else of course but she doesn't view it as "the ultimate power" nor a necessity for the throne. She's actively cheating in fact to make sure she doesn't lose despite having it.
