@Psychronia I can't remember for sure (and I'm too lazy to go back and check at the moment, so correct me if I'm wrong), but didn't he basically shut himself away and have little contact with her for most of her life up to this point? If so, he'd basically have had less impact on her development than one of their servants; the Westermarck effect usually governs the absence of sexual attraction among people who spend the first few years of their lives together (generally thought to end at about 6 years of age), but with their lack of contact, that wouldn't be present to inhibit Char.

IIRC the father of little sister is the brother of the king. So they're cousins. Though in that level of society and most of human existence, that's an acceptable level of distance for marriage. Though I'm kinda guessing that she really wants them to get together because she wants her child to become defacto royalty (all be it disowned)

I re-read the past chapters, and confirmed that Haruto and Char is blood related.
In chapter 2, Haruto's adoptive father said that he's a relative to the king (Haruto's father), but we dont know for sure if they are direct siblings or not (thathe and the king have same father and mother)

But does the mother want something similar to incest by accident? XD

@deerafl I'll re-read later and see if I can figure out what the relation is too.

@Ifrittuccia

They're not direct blood related, at the closest they are 1st cousins, once or not removed.

Dunno you, but I thought the adoptive father was the one related to the king, not Char. Maybe the adoptive father is the brother of the king, Haruto uncle? so, Char cousin?

@deerafl They are, but on the other hand she is his cousin if the father is the brother of the king (and i think he mentioned that he is somewhere?), relationships between cousins arent that common today (even if still there), but really common back in the times (and this plays in a medieval-like fantasy world, so i guess?)
Not that i want them to, but well, whutever :D For me it's less about blood relationship but about how you grew up, he lived there as their son and she as their daughter, so his sister, even if they werent blood related at all that would be weird to me, while on the other hand someone who never met their blood related sibling and falling in love than with like 20 or so isn't really weird, even if complicated then.

But hey, weird or not, in the end i only care about my stuff, if some siblings wanna bang, get a condom and go for it, what do i care... :x (unpopular opinion, incestbashers will hate me, hehe :D)

btw: Send her to the Yaoi-Route!!! :D

Well, from the mother's point of view he is actually the best marriage candidate possible for the daughter.
He is from royal lineage; magically powerful; despite his efforts to hife, has been shown to be quite resourceful; the girl seems to like him; does not have conflicting loyalties; speaking of loyaities, he also has the loyalty of the equivalent of a battleship in humanoif form; and so on, so forth...

Actually, if he does not marry her, far from being a positive or neutral outcome, the family runs the risk of being in great, well, risk.

TL;DR at bottom

Okay, so chapter 2 only has Margrave Gordo as a "relative" which can mean anything. So the only thing to go off of is Gordo's rank of Margrave.

In short, he's a military governor tasked with guarding the borders of the nation; hierarchy wise he's higher than a count. We also saw that this world is in conflict, cause the Empire to the north is having designs on Gordo's territory, so Gordo is likely highly trusted. Historically, Margraves in conflict zones had massive amounts of political and military power and autonomy available to them, and essentially could act as another head of state (they could conquer land and keep it for themselves and distribute it to vassals, so long as they were loyal to the crown/emperor).

That being said, they do not outrank a Duke. And duchies tend to be reserved for direct blood relations to the crown (brothers and sisters). Marquis is a related rank but depends on the system; in the Holy Roman Empire, Margraves had the authority of the Emperor, but Marquis were simply noblemen who ruled the borderlands and was used more in Italy or Spain.

To compare, a duke ruled a duchy that was a province, and counts ruled counties within a province, with barons ruling smaller lands or cities within those counties. A margrave's territory could rival a dukes, depending on the circumstances, but would never be smaller than a count's.

Basically, Margrave Gordo should be at the closest a 1st cousin and no farther than a 2nd cousin. There could be a large age gap between the king and Gordo (hard to tell, being a ruler has lots of stress with it) so Gordo could even be once removed.

TL;DR

Gordo is either a First Cousin of the king, or at the furthest a Second Cousin, Once Removed. Highly unlikely (but still possible) to be a brother to the king (relative is a cold way to refer to a sibling).

Which makes our MC and Char far enough apart that it doesn't legally count as incest in our modern times. The incest would only be in their minds as Char thinks of him as a real onii-chan and our MC see's her as a true imouto.

PS: compared to modern times, the mayor of Los Angeles would technically be a Baron, but given the strategic importance of the city and it's port, the mayor would have the equivalent power to a Count or Viscount.

San Diego and it's county however, would have their mayor qualify as a Margrave, since it's right at the border with Mexico.
