the creator of guilty gear literally put out a statement saying we only put Bridget trans for political issues
…nah.
I just did a search, read for two pages of searches looking for anything that wasn’t an article praising the change or someone ranting transphobia on Twitter, and then read two wiki articles (Wikipedia and the gg fandom).
Nothing that agrees with that. All of it is just him saying “yes, she’s a girl. She/her. Next question”.
Also, everything is political. It’s just easiest to see when it involves a change away from your own politics.
Want an example of making a character trans that is bungled and clumsy? Arcee from Transformers (ironic lol). Pointless (just retcon the mad scientist out of the equatio), pandering and ham-fisted (making it super heroic). Bleh.
The narrative of Bridget’s life is super interesting with this change. They could have touched things up to make the earlier stuff less cringe and kept her a boy, but the cringey stuff works great as part of a trans woman’s life. Confusion about who you are is messy and confusing, especially when there’s pressure from multiple sides. So her messy and confusing story works.
I‘m all in favour of non-traditional gender presentation. I literally applauded when Freminet and Lyney were announced, and I don’t even play Genshin anymore.
(I think Lyney’s costume is a bit much, but that’s just fashion sense differences. He can dress like Dr Frankenfurter if he wants! I didn’t get strung out by the way he looks. I love The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I was surprised, but only and the chutzpah of the devs. Then again, they made Xiao and they gave Jean a Kainé-esque bulge and put subtitles right there so I was playing a quest and BLAM. Soooo much… cock. They don’t give a fuck.)
There are lots of femboys things out there that are way better-written than Bridget, these days. In the East and in the West.
Give up.
