Story is a bit mid after the first arc.

A lot of padding with MC thinking crap so a conversation which would typically be 1-2 chapters could take 10. MC constantly gets pushed around by others because if he stands up for himself other ppl will die because they suck. There is a war arc where it's just MC saving his childhood friends cuz they were way out of their depth. MC also has a lot of time skips but never seems to try to improve on himself seeing as it's clear as day this stuff is going to keep happening whether he wants it to or not. Dude has a princess breathing down his neck about owning him for his own good and barks orders at him but all he can do is sass her back cuz she'll die if he doesn't do w.e she needs for the plot.

he's dealing with a bratty noble lady who's only 13 yo who's country is trying to reunify the world via war and she has this whole racism is good because religion stance which the MC shrugs at. Only reason he doesn't drop her and let her fend for herself despite her treating him poorly is because she's a minor and has no guardian who can take care of her.

At the moment, she's on the run as she was named the inheritor of the family title so her older sister wants her dead so she demands MC take care of her. Why did he go along with her? Well because he still hasn't been given his reward she promised and she's withholding it from him to get more work out of their relationship.

From what i read it's less him being dense and him treating them all like babies and he sort of looks down on them like most adults would. He's sort of insensitive to the needs or wants of others unless he bothers to care.

I mean, she’s a five year old. If a five year old had a crush on you, and you’re in your thirties, you probably wouldn’t feel comfortable showing any signs of reciprocating it either. Especially since she thinks he’s also a five year old, making him fair game.

Regardless of whether you think the other person is into you or not, paying a friend even a minor compliment should be basic instinct, especially if you can tell that they put effort in. Just because you don't want the other person to get the wrong idea doesn't mean you can't still be nice to them, or even just polite.
