a very rare type of "turn brain off" manga where it has the constituent parts to make slop (hence the brain off), and yet it significantly outperforms the average manga when you do so

Really funny, adorable cast but the mc hides his power masking it for unstrust to the people he is caring about (because japanese must be japanese I guess), then that causes more problems for the village and for some reason the middle-age man couldn't put 1+1 together but a pre-teen girl could... I will sadly skip this one.

One of the rare few manga where it is good enough that there is very little haters.
My personal rating:
Side note: 1/10 is so bad I would rather die then read it, 2/10 is so bad i would pay people to read it for me, 3/10 is so bad I need to be bribed to read it, 4/10 is bad, 5/10 is bad but I could read it, 6/10 is I would read it if I don't have anything else to read, 7/10 is average when compared to a mediocre manga and I would read if I am bored and feel like reading it over other 7/10, 8/10 is good and would read it if I have time and there is new chapters, 9/10 is very good and I would read it whenever I can and 10/10 is practically perfect and I would read it even if I should be doing something else
Storyline: 8/10 good
Execution: 9/10 really damn good so far as the author leaves parts vague which allows the author to be able to have more free reign when making the rest of the manga. Only problem is that there is not much explanation as to his powers and limits which is extremely realistic since he basically self taught all the magic he knows but would be perfect if they explained HOW he figured out his powers other then just "oh hey imma just copy what I know about magic from my past life" like for example whether he coats his body in mana, injects mana into his muscles or cycles mana in his body to use his body strengthening. So instead of 10/10 I would lower it down to 9/10
Characters and character development: 7/10 the characters are portrayed realistically which makes it interesting but leaves some parts a little lackluster.
Overall rating: 8/10

Don't usually jump in forums, but I have to know: is there something I'm missing regarding this manga?

I've read the 12 chapters that have been uploaded as of the date of this message, but nothing from this manga pops out to me. The plot is your average isekai mc having a power trip fantasy with unexplained op powers and using them to guarantee his "peaceful life" at the village, which would check all the standard boxes for an isekai EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT THERE IS ZERO MOTIVE. The literal only thing his past life is good for is to explain his preference for "alone time" away from the village kids; no explanation for his powers (1 in 1000 mage is all they say lol), why specifically he wants a peaceful life (was he overworked in his past life, or relatives giving him a hard time? Who knows), or anything else backstories are good for. He doesn't even stop once to think about the potential consequences of his actions (why let people believe there is a monster if you know they're gonna spend tons of time, labor, and money to hunt said monster?), which is the bare minimum of what an adult his age should know.

Characters are one-dimensional in both their design and actions. I get it if the manga is targetting readers who just want a quick break and not think about anything, but a slice of life manga would have done a lot better in that regard compared to what it has turned into.

Is there something I'm missing with this manga? I honestly don't see the appeal; like was the light novel 10x better or something, and did the manga not do it justice? Please let me know.
First of all there doesn't have to have a motive for it to be good since it is a primarily slice of life manga, it's not like most people irl have a motive for doing what they do. Second of all, the fact that the plot isn't explained makes it so that there could be some kind of reveal of his past and how it links to the present in the future and is also pretty realistic cus if your past life is shit you would not want to remember it and even if you try you would probably only remember "it was shit because of person a" or "it was shit because of my job" which would not be much info at all which they did explain. Third of all, what is better, Leaving the people to die, revealing you have all this strength and making people fear you and try to kill you or at the very least look for you when they are in trouble and make you famous and have no alone time and normal interaction with people (which is what mc wants) or saving lives and stuff in exchange for wasting a little of some people's time? Me personally, I would chose option 3.
Final thing I got to say, why tf are you reading Isekai manga if you expect it to be pure perfection? 99% of Isekai manga is worse then this manga which is already above average. If you want a perfect manga then go to heaven where they probably have a library of god tier manga from the past, future and present. Us mortals have a creative limit that authors will eventually reach.

Okay, first of all, is generic as heck, the magic looks kinda lame, the character design looks boring and the MC is basically overpowered, but without any charisma.
That said, its a good read for a bathroom break, so for now its a 6/10 in the isekai + overpowered MC + kid MC.
Lets just hope he isnt like the ugly pig from mushoko and f a kid.

Loved the series since I was expecting the whole discovering she as a girl aspect since Turners hair color made her look feminisms really hope this becomes the true Mushoku tensei killer.
"the true Mushoku tensei killer" LMAO, yeah good luck with that 😂 for now this is clearly just another generic isekai, another mc is all good, he can't kill, has no personality, just a good boy for us to self insert

I thought at first it was a cliché isekai but by the 6th chapter I knew it had huge potential.

Never got the whole "Can't kill" thing. Like do you expect the average person to be able to kill someone and have the mentality for it? It's easy to write about it, but actually experiencing it is a whole other thing. Hell, people have a hard time even killing animals

If I were up against folks so hilariously evil as these bandits in a world like that? I would pull the trigger unless I'm so godlike that I can effortlessly capture them.

It's quite charismatic. The comedic and seriousness balance is on point for the directionless state the story is currently in and the personalities we've been introduced to are fun to see. They're literally just a bunch of meddling kids

Good explanation of your ratings! I just binged the first 12 chapters and based on your list, I give it a 9/10.

Honestly the greatest breath of fresh air I've read in a long while when it comes to isekai. The protag is generally grounded and reasonable in a lot of the situations he's in. Right now at chapter 12, I can give this a solid 9/10 would recommend.
