I think the Thug has some real guts (actually, just idiots) to see a really well dressed little kid and think "i'm going to mess with her / shake her down", and not worry about the guards/assassins that are likely nearby. Yeah, she could've snuck out or the like, but I certainly wouldn't depend on that without at least trying to see if there are hidden guards or something nearby.

I'm surprised no one has commented on the fact that the excuse for her feet hurting is that she's "never ridden in a carriage for that long before". Wouldn't it be more reasonable that her butt would hurt from riding in the carriage, and that her feet hurt from running around so much in the city? Don't get me wrong, I know nothing about how to read japanese, it just didn't make much sense to me.
