I can't decide if I should applaud or smack the author for spending this side-arc as basically a setup for manju kowai punchline.

For people who don't know, manju kowai is a rakugo ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakugo , though many of you might know the jugemu jugemu one )

Spoiler: the plot is

Bunch of young men gather to basically confess their fear
One guy mock them "wao all your fears are so trash"
Then after being pressed by others if he doesn't have his own fear, he admit "I hate manju"
After which he say "just mentioning it is making me feel sick, I'm out" and left to rest.

Pissed off by his attitude, the others decide to pool money to buy a bunch of manju and put it in the guy's room.
When the guy woke up, he started eating them while saying things like "if I eat them all, they won't be here to scare me no more" or "so good, so scary"

At which points the other realized they got played.

The evil cook got hit harder than expected. But the part where he attacked the princess was totally his fault. In that situation, it wouldn't be surprising for the feudal lord to be caught in collateral damage too.
But well, the feudal lord is going to have his own problems soon.
