What I want to know is why the cousin turned the delinquent guy. Other than her being pissed at the curse, we don’t have her rationale. Right now, they were just dragged into it for no real reason.

Mashiro's logic doesn't make much sense in general. Her explanation for why she's doing things doesn't really explain much, just her feelings in doing so. But as far as I can tell is that she's basically HAD IT with the family curse and the family trying to keep it a secret. To live with that burden in quiet and forcing everyone else to as well. (the whole "we may have poisoned your tea" stuff was pretty hardcore)

So... basically she was going to go on a masquerade violation spree. Tsubakida was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. An interesting irony is that he might actually relate to her a lot if she opened up to him. Honestly, his behavior in this chapter is actually extremely laudable. A lot of manga delinquents would've interrupted all the hand wringing with "I DONT EFFING CARE TURN ME BACK YOU--!!" and he'd be right to do it. Instead he just patiently listened to everyone even if he had a hard time understanding, not getting upset that he's essentially being ignored despite what was just done to him. Bro might in fact be a keeper in his own right.

tbh that's kinda my issue with the series. I think the protagonist is a reasonably different and interesting dude, the premise of course allows for all sortsa stuff, the heroine seemingly being into both sides of her "boy"friend can be interesting, yaddayadda.

But when it comes to the "plot" around the curse you got that bonkers "we'll drug you" or now this pseudo-edgelord-"I just want to watch your relationship burn" subplot, neither of which really feels thought through or does all that much to develop the main couple (yeahyeah they are too in love to break up over this ... either of those ... two times the same ^^).

A transbian absolutely would shake up this manga in a way I'd welcome, presuming that doesn't end up being the protagonist. Still, a lot of TSF manga takes on a very different tone when you remember there are plenty of people on either side who would LOVE to jump the gender fence. You can often tell the skilled character writers from the unskilled based on whether they even acknowledge this fact. Even the baseline of acknowledging this fact is often too high a bar to clear, let alone considering leaning into it

(Thankfully in the last 30 years I've been following the genre, "often" is actually a dramatic decrease from the "usually" of the 2010's and the "ubiquitously" in the 1990's and 2000's.)

I think one of the coolest moments I'd had in recent years was reading a manga with a gender change genetic condition... and everyone who got it seemed cool about having it? And I thought that was really strange until the story quoted the statistics about the prevalence of the condition -- it was a near 1 to 1 match with the rough estimate of the number of trans people in a populace. That's when I realized the author actually might have researched that and made a world where people's bodies suddenly transition of their own accord. Maybe I'm hoping for too much but it'd be wild if that was intentional. (considering the deuteragonist became homeless because of her condition surfacing within a toxic household, it might be a surprisingly safe bet)

Also, the MC is really interesting. His kind of personality is so rare.
