I think the most rational in universe reason for this is that she straight up didn’t know she was a Saurant origin beast until after the Octopus groping. Maybe she found out when they tried to give her the beastification surgery only to find out it wasn’t needed, or perhaps Seira took the opportunity to tell her as to mold her as the secret weapon.

The author keeps doing those turbo twists in his works that contradict past actions and thoughts of characters and barely make any sense at all. Remember how Rio forfeit a fight to Pure because of how guilty she was over killing Mai, even in her own inner monologue, only for it to turn out Mai was alive and Rio knew the entire time?

This manga is incredibly stupid and I can't wait for it to end. The worst part is that, looking at other works by the same author, it's not even stupid on purpose, so there's very little hope that he can deliver a satisfying ending.
