One of the shorter series I've translated, so not tooo much of an investment (even if it feels longer because of that hiatus), but I'm still sad about how it ended up. I think, looking back, there are signs foreshadowing this, and even though it does feel rushed, I don't really see any way of killing off Kyou that would've made me feel like "Oh man, can't wait to see where the story goes from here".

Don't know what that bit with the mom/dad was all about. Maybe trying to push an idea about how not letting go of stuff/moving on is bad?

Anyway, I loved the art of the series, the early drama, and, of course, Kyou. I think my favorite part of the series was after the date, when Kyou was in the bathroom lamenting that he's a guy, and that he just wanted a hairpin. I love those series that deal with gender, or wishing you were the other gender so your sexuality would be more accepted (or your love would be requited?).

Last thought - I've recently picked up another series, Dou ka Kimi ni Abakaretai. There are only 2 chapters out (very recent), so I can't promise an ending, but the first chapter does have a flash forward to where they're doing well. The 1st (and 2nd, when it came out) chapter gave me vibes of Riki and Kyou, in a Taishou AU but without Kagami around, so I'd love it if you checked it out. Though, for better or for worse, it definitely lacks some of that sweet, sweet, toxicity.

I agree that the story might have benefitted if given more time, but still highly enjoyable. It's always nice to find diamonds in the rough (really rough) depths of aggregator sites. What runs through (some) readers' heads is extremely obvious when looking at the score distributions... I really shouldn't even be paying attention to public average ratings. 9/10

It has all the elements. It's depressing, and awful, and hopeless, and so insanely pessimistic. It's everything I wanted the ending to be, but presented in such a terrible way.

This could've been a great ending if it wasn't rushed. Another work ruined by the short-notice axe. Honestly a shame.

my fanfiction ending:

Kagami dresses as Kyou, tries to imitate him going across the veranda, and falls/dies. Kyou and Rikimaru then grieve for a bit and then live happily ever after. A story about grudges being your downfall, literally.

oh well. at least it was interesting, even if i hated the ending.

I didn't dislike it, I think. For as hard as the shift was when Kyou died, this is like, the happiest way things could turn out, and the least messed up version of "and so they reincarnate as my kid" I've seen. I don't know if they'll shift into more like, drama after he's born, but... if it's literal it's sort of sweet? In a way? Kagami and Rikimaru being honest with each other, seeing each other, finally, and both of them (hopefully) treasuring the Kyou who never really got to be loved the way he could love others. He was like the least messed up character and got a really shitty deal in it all.

However I was also already expecting a LOT more misery in media and more "we cope but we're messy :')" stories after 2020 and I feel like that's kinda all hitting in the closings right now. Some are happier than others but nothing really gets the neat bow it might've back before that.

Author genuinely has brain damage. This is some 2015 wattpad style writing. I don't understand how this manga left the drafts.

I've said this a billion times but this guy should stick to making porn instead of saturating the market with more pretentious drama manga. There are some decent people who genuinely want to read some good writing and they have the misfortune of stumbling upon this disaster work and wasting their time.

Either make an Isekai or go make some more porn, writing isn't for everyone.
