It seems like, for one reason or another, this series was cut short. It had a very interesting premise that I wish it had time to explore. Oh well, I did enjoy what I read at least.

Bro what is with all these shit fucking endings. JJK, MHA, Oshi no Ko, this manga and even the Elden Ring DLC had a garbage ending on the same level of Games of Thrones(ironic). All of this in the last 4-5 months. Is Japan ok?

1 year hiatus will do that to you.
Series didn't even get a volume 2 released so it's truly in the axed camp. (you know it's bad when they release a volume numbered 1 and then no subsequent volumes)

My guess is that volume 1 sold really poorly and the series overall didn't get much traction (looking at the numbers on yanmanga shows this was not a particularly popular series), and after taking an entire year off the author likely was just given a couple chapters to finish it off because there's no way it'd regain traction after that (you can definitely tell how abrupt the change is in chapter 11)

While it avoided the Total Party Death situation I was expecting it still results in a very very messed up family situation, like avoids immediate tragedy of the double suicide and now its just dragged out messing up that kid and any future kids life with deeply scared parents AND grandparents (especially paternal Grandma given that rant there). Almost reads like actual rare case of author following the "have kids" meme and showing how that can result in horrible family situation instead of what most do of focusing on their chars happiness or lack thereof.

Also rushed ending that is actually properly truly bad and not just people being extra about a flawed one, the other ones had their rush prevent full potential/had stuff skipped over while this rush from cancellation clearly changed direction to give middle finger to everyone. Like it was still gonna be a lot of drama and tragedy from insane sibling rivalry but this is extra.

Killing themselves would've been a way more satisfying ending than whatever this weird delusion is.

At least there would've been actual closure... But they are always so afraid of that.

It's not actually a poorly written finale per se. I mean ghosts don't really exist, so them being magically saved could've also used some indication of a strong wind on the rooftop. We also probably needed a couple more chapters after Kyou died I think, but it might've dragged on. They teased the fact that leaping across the balcony is extremely dangerous a billion times, and well, it just happened to kill Kyou right after the gex. I think it's purposely done so it's easy to think the sister actually went THAT far, but there was no indication that she would go as far as to murder her brother just to get what she wants. We also haven't seen enough as to exactly how she got that way, we just have pieces, so that's another thing that the ending sorely wanted

All in all, I think most people feel sorry for the baby, but it's not that uncommon for parents to assume a dead loved one in the family reincarnated into an unborn baby. At the very least they're getting proper jobs and living a life committed to each other.

Really good manga. My conclusion:

Kyou fell of and died, if it was an accident or if Kagami was directly responsible for it doesn't really matter, if finished the job of fully breaking the characters. The author kept it vague, since crossing the balcony was suicidal in the first place. Anyway, Kyou being dead completely destroyed both Kagami and Riki, Riki ended up humoring Kagami being a replacement, (maybe initially it was for cope, but he was clearly fully aware of the situation by the end) and she was never alright in the first place.

About the end: Was the paranormal involved in saving them, or was it just a trick of the mind of two completely broken individuals as a coping device? I firmly belive its the latter. The characters and pieces the author had could only end in a sad note (save for an incredible asspull, or a deus ex machina), not only did they manage to commit to the story they were writing, they also came up with a sensible ending; Two completely shattered minds went on to live delusional and likely misserable life.

Holy shit that was BAD. They really should have ended it with them jumping off the building, at least then I would have given it some points. But hey, I got a funny face in the end so I guess I can give it some credit.
