I'm screaming in my heart over that final page.
The fact that these last few chapters have been so cathartic in just seeing Sheena and Mimi be happy and putting the reality of their situation on the back burner for a bit, only to drop those three words is .....this was never going to end well and I frankly am not equipped to deal with it when that happens.
But Mimi being so frank about her and Sheena's relationship, even to the point that Omi-sensei can't help but get swept up in the idyllic nature of it, is necessary. A story of war and children sent to die requires moments of sunlight in between the blackness, and even as it signals more sorrow on the horizon, it's important to remember why they're doing this at all.
To protect things like the ability to love.
And Mimi, knowing darkness and isolation and violence and nothing else for so long, to be so fully all-in on what she's found in Sheena, is heartening. She might have saw her mother at first, but they've moved well beyond that, and I can only hope that it strengthens them and those around them, and doesn't hinder them in the coming strife.
This series is just too good, and as unprepared as I am for what will surely be tragedy sooner than later, I am grateful that it's being continued and translated with such care.
So thank you for what you do in bringing this to us.
